Values and school uniform Our school uniform plays a valuable role in contributing to the ethos of our school. The uniform instils pride as well as protecting pupils from social pressures to dress in a particular way. St Thomas uniform helps to foster togetherness and can be a very important tool in helping our young people to develop self-discipline. Curriculum Structure Our curriculum is coherent, relevant, and inclusive; allowing a pupil to progress from S1 through to their specific leaving year experiencing high quality learning and teaching which will lead to a positive destination. The school is committed to closing the attainment gap through a curriculum which enables pupils to progress through and achieve CfE levels and National Qualifications when they are ready.
S1-S3 Broad General Education (S1-S3) In S1-S3 pupils will experience a broad range of subjects, 17 in S1 and in S2. Courses & programmes will generally follow Level 3 and Level 4 experiences and outcomes and, where appropriate, National 5 outcomes. In S3 pupils will be able personalise their timetable and choice subjects in the curricular areas of Science, Social Subjects, Expressive Arts, and Technologies along with core subjects of Maths, English, Languages, RE, PE, and PSE. The Senior Phase (S4-S6) Pupils in S4 will study 7 National Qualifications progression and choice Pupils in S5 will generally study 5 National Qualifications. Some pupils may benefit from pursuing a complement of school-based subjects and a college placement. Pupils in S6 have the flexibility to pursue a range of at least 4 National Qualifications along with experiences at the school, neighbourhood schools, College, work experience, and for volunteering opportunities.
Application process Pupils starting S1 in August 2021 All parents will be contacted by letter by CEC about transfer to High School and admissions procedures from early November 20. Parents requesting a place in their RC catchment school will need to complete a RC placing request. Proof of baptism must be provided for P7 pupils. Parents can apply online to make a placing request for a non catchment school. The deadline is 24 December 2020 and decisions will be made on these requests in early March 2021. Applications submissions will be reviewed regularly by CEC . Please be aware that places in Roman Catholic schools are not guaranteed and that priority is given to children baptised in the Catholic Faith ( RC Admission form) Late requests will be accepted up to 31 July 2021 but will only be considered after the first round in March 21 Placing requests are now open .PDF versions of online forms are available to download from CEC at http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/schoolplaces
