How do I know which class to
schedule for my student?
 
Gifted
 – must have a gifted IEP
Resource
 – must have a Students With
  
Exceptionalities (SWE) IEP
Honors
 – choose wisely
On Level 
majority of students
; this is a college
prep curriculum
Talented
 – must have a “talented” IEP
 
For students that want to enter the work force after
high school adjustments are made after the
sophomore year
 
The on-level curriculum is a college prep curriculum.
Students wishing to be challenged at a high level with an
increased homework load may consider choosing
honors/gifted.  Consider the following when making
course selections:
Current schedule – What type of classes is your student
currently taking?
Current and past grades – Students should be making
A’s and B’s to continue in honors/gifted classes.
Teacher recommendations

 grade standardized test scores – Students
taking honors/gifted should be scoring at the Advanced
or Mastery level
Parental knowledge – Is your student motivated to
work hard?
 
The freshman year is not the time to make drastic
changes.
In general high school is much more difficult than
junior high.
Make choices that will setup your student for
success.
Taking all honors/gifted classes can be mentally and
emotionally overwhelming.
Students can take individual honors/gifted classes.
Choose the level of class that matches their specific
area of interest and aptitude.
Example: A student may be strong in English, but
weak in Math.  They can schedule Honors English
and On-level Math
 
This Schedule Card will be used in
developing Mandeville High School’s
master schedule for the 2324 session.
Your signature below indicates that you
understand 
placement in these courses will
be PERMANENT
 and no changes will be
made.
 
Although this statement seems harsh your selections are important.  Once the master
schedule has been created it is very difficult to add or delete course sections.
