  1. WHAT WILL WE COVER? REVIEW THE MISSION AND VALUES OF THE WYOMING 4-H PROGRAM. LOOK AT THE ROLES OF A 4-H COUNCIL, 4-H COMMITTEE, AND THE 4-H EDUCATOR. LOOK AT THE JOB DESCRIPTION LOOK AT WHAT ROLE A VOLUNTEER PLAYS AS PART OF A 4-H COMMITTEE.

  2. MISSION THE MISSION OF THE WYOMING 4-H PROGRAM IS TO EMPOWER YOUTH TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL BY WORKING AND LEARNING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CARING ADULTS.

  3. VISION THE VISION OF THE WYOMING 4-H PROGRAM IS TO DEVELOP A WORLD IN WHICH YOUTH AND ADULTS LEARN, GROW AND WORK TOGETHER AS CATALYSTS FOR POSITIVE CHANGE. IN SUPPORT OF THIS VISION THE WYOMING 4-H PROGRAM: PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES FOR FORMAL AND NON-FORMAL COMMUNITY-FOCUSED EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING. HELPS YOUTH DEVELOP SKILLS THAT BENEFIT THEM THROUGHOUT LIFE. FOSTERS LEADERSHIP AND VOLUNTEERISM IN YOUTH AND ADULTS. WORKS TO STRENGTHEN FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES. USES RESEARCH-BASED KNOWLEDGE AVAILABLE FROM THE LAND GRANT UNIVERSITY SYSTEM AND OTHER SOURCES.

  4. THE YOUTH EXPERIENCE IN WYOMING 4-H AS A MEMBER OF THE WYOMING 4-H PROGRAM, WE LOOK TO PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCES TO YOUTH: THE OPPORTUNITY TO SET GOALS, KEEP RECORDS, AND REFLECT ON THEIRLEARNING IN A PROJECT AREA. A CARING ADULT TO PROVIDE THE SUPPORT NEEDED TO DEVELOP LIKE SKILLS THROUGH PROJECT WORK. OPPORTUNITIES FOR HANDS-ON LEARNING EXPERIENCES. A PLACE TO PUBLICLY DISPLAY THEIR LEARNING IN ONE OR MORE PROJECT AREAS. OPPORTUNITIES TO USE THE SKILLS LEARNED IN THEIR CLUB AND PROJECT WORK AT A COUNTY, REGIONAL, STATE, NATIONAL, AND INTERNATIONAL LEVEL.

  5. WHAT IS THE ROLE OF A 4-H COUNCIL? ASSIST WITH PROGRAMMING FUNDRAISING RECOGNITION ADVOCATE AND PROMOTE PROVIDE SUGGESTIONS

  6. WHAT IS THE ROLE OF A COMMITTEE? COMMITTEES FALL UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE 4-H EDUCATOR AND MAY BE ASKED TO REPORT TO A COUNCIL IF ONE EXISTS. COMMITTEES FOCUS ON A SPECIFIC PURPOSE, EVENT, ACTIVITY OR PROJECT. ASSIST WITH PROGRAMMING FUNDRAISING RECOGNITION ADVOCATE AND PROMOTE PROVIDE SUGGESTIONS

  7. MORE ON COMMITTEES BEST IF THEY INVOLVE A YOUTH-ADULT PARTNERSHIP MODEL. YOUTH AND ADULTS WORK TOGETHER NOT YOUTH AS OBJECTS ADULTS KNOW WHAT IS BEST FOR 4-H MEMBERS AND THEY LET THEM BE INVOLVED. NOT YOUTH AS RECIPIENTS ADULTS ALLOW FOR A YOUTH VOICE BECAUSEIT WILL BE GOOD FOR THEM. YOUTH ARE PARTNERS RESPECT IS MUTUAL AND YOUTH ARE ENCOURAGED AND FEEL WELCOME TO BE INVOLVED AT ALL LEVELS

  8. MORE ON COMMITTEES ALL COMMITTEES ARE ULTIMATELY ACCOUNTABLE TO THE 4-H/YOUTH EDUCATOR. THERE ARE VARIATIONS AMONG COUNTIES IN ORGANIZATIONAL AND COMMITTEE STRUCTURES, BUT COMMUNICATION BETWEEN COMMITTEES, COUNTY ORGANIZATIONS, MEMBERS, AND THE 4-H/YOUTH EDUCATOR IS NECESSARY AND SHOULD BE CLEARLY DEFINED. STANDING COMMITTEES (COMMITTEES THAT MEET ON A REGULAR BASIS) SHOULD HAVE OPERATING GUIDELINES IN PLACE. GUIDELINES ARE TO BE DISTRIBUTED TO EACH MEMBER OF THE GROUP OR COMMITTEE AND REVIEWED ANNUALLY WITH THE GROUP. VOTING MEMBERS ON COMMITTEES ARE 4-H VOLUNTEER LEADERS AND YOUTHMEMBERS/LEADERS. COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES ARE TO BE ACCESSIBLE TO ALL COMMITTEE MEMBERS INCLUDING THE 4- H/YOUTH. SEEKS ADVICE FROM THE 4-H YOUTH DEVELOPMENT EDUCATOR.

  9. WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE 4-H EDUCATOR? THE 4-H/YOUTH EDUCATOR IS CHARGED WITH OVERALL LEADERSHIP AND OVERSIGHT FOR ALL 4-H/YOUTH PROGRAMS AND GROUPS IN THE COUNTY. THIS INCLUDES GUIDANCE AND SUPPORT FOR THE 4-H COMMUNITY CLUB PROGRAM, 4-H OUTREACH PROGRAMS, AND SERVING AS A COMMUNITY LEADER IN YOUTH DEVELOPMENT.

  10. WHAT IS YOUR ROLE? ASSIST WITH PROGRAMMING FUNDRAISING RECOGNITION ADVOCATE AND PROMOTE PROVIDE SUGGESTIONS

COMMITTEE MEMBER JOB DESCRIPTION YOUR PURPOSE: ASSIST IN THE SUCCESS OF THE COUNTY 4-H PROGRAM BY ASSISTING THE4-H EDUCATOR AND OTHER VOLUNTEERS IN THE PLANNING, IMPLEMENTING, ANDEVALUATION OF PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES FOR THE COUNTY 4-H PROGRAM. THE SPECIFIC TASKS AND EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES ARE BASED ON THE TYPE OF COMMITTEE THAT YOU ARE A MEMBER OF (SHOOTING SPORTS, COUNTY COUNCIL, LIVESTOCK, CARNIVAL, FUNDRAISING, ETC.)

  12. COMMITTEE MEMBER JOB DESCRIPTION MEASURE OF SUCCESS COMPLETION OF EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES, MEETING AND EVENTS RELATEDTO THE COMMITTEE S AREA OF INTEREST. THE 4-H EDUCATOR, MEMBERS AND PARENTS ARE INFORMED OF ACTIVITIES RELATED TO THE COMMITTEE S WORK. COMMITTEE MEMBERS ARE ACTIVE AND ENGAGED IN THE 4-H EDUCATIONAL PROCESS, THE ENTIRE COMMITTEE IS WORKING TOGETHER TO ACHIEVE THE COMMITTEE S OVERALL GOALS.

  13. COMMITTEE MEMBER JOB DESCRIPTION RESPONSIBILITIES: ATTEND COMMITTEE MEETINGS. PLAN AND HELP WITH COMMITTEE ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS. HELP TO IDENTIFY PROBLEMS, NEEDS, AND CONCERNS RELATED TO THE SCOPE OF THE COMMITTEE. HELP TO IDENTIFY AND OBTAIN RESOURCES TO MEET THE COMMITTEE S EDUCATIONAL GOALS. GIVE LEADERSHIP AND GUIDANCE TO COMMITTEE WORK. SERVE ON SUBCOMMITTEES. REVIEW PROGRAM RESULTS WITH STAFF AND LOOK FOR WAYS TO IMPROVE PROGRAMMING FOR THE FUTURE. ADHERE TO THE WYOMING 4-H POLICIES.

  14. OPERATING GUIDELINES WHEN STARTING YOUR ROLE ON A BOARD OR COMMITTEE ASK TO SEE THE OPERATING GUIDELINES. IF NONE EXIST WORK WITH YOUR COUNTY 4-H EDUCATOR TO HELP ESTABLISH OPERATING GUIDELINES FOR THE GROUP. KNOW THE OPERATING GUIDELINES OF THE BOARD OR COMMITTEE WHAT ROLE DOES THE COMMITTEE OR BOARD PLAY IN BIG PICTURE OF 4-H? WHO IS PART OF THE COMMITTEE? WHO CAN VOTE?

  15. FINANCES DOES THIS COMMITTEE OR BOARD HAVE THEIR OWN FINANCES? IF THEY DO, THEY WILL NEED TO BE A CHARTERED GROUP, CHECK WITH THE CHAIRMAN OR 4-H EDUCATORS THAT THE GROUP HAS OPERATING GUIDELINES. KNOW YOUR ROLE RELATED TO FUNDS. COMMITTEES MAY SUGGEST WAYS TO MANAGE FUNDS OR BE ASKED TO HELP WITH FUNDRAISING. THE ULTIMATE SPENDING OF MONEY NEEDS TO BE UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE COUNTY 4-H EDUCATOR.
