  3. Organs and tissues suitable for donation Suitable organs include heart, lung, liver and kidney. Other than organs, some tissues can also be donated, including cornea, skin and long bone.

  4. Living and cadaveric donation Living Donation: Kidney and liver According to the Human Organ Transplant Ordinance, living donors must be 18 years of age or above. Cadaveric Donation: Kidney, liver, heart, lung, cornea, bone and skin There is no age limit for cadaveric organ donors.

  5. Number of People Waiting for Organ/Tissue transplantation There were only 42 deceased organ donors in 2020.

  6. Hong Kong is one of those places in the world that have the lowest donation rates. In 2020, there were only 5.59 deceased donors per million population.

  7. Misconceptions Patients are not able to donate organs? There is an age limit for organ donation? If I register to be a donor and later encounter an accident, the medical personnel will not save my life? My religion does not accept organ donation?

Register as an organ donor register in the Centralised Organ Donation Register (CODR) of the Department of Health - through CODR website, or - complete the registration form in the leaflet and submit it by post or fax . no age limit for registering as a cadaveric organ donor . remember to tell your family your wish to donate organs

  9. Organ Donation System Opt-in People have to take an initiative to register as an organ donor, if they wish to donate organs after death. Opt-out People will automatically become donors after death, unless they have registered their objection to donate when alive. Currently, only brain death patients are accepted as potential organ donors in Hong Kong.
