Mandatory Common Core Programmes (MCCP) Course Registration Students are required to complete an online form to facilitate the registration of MCCP6010, 6020 & 6120 The registration will be conducted on a first-come-first served basis Go to BUniPort, select Progress for Mandatory Common Core Programme , to check your enrolled sections For other workshops, no registration is needed and you will complete them online 7

  8. Mandatory Common Core Programmes (MCCP) Course Registration Check the Timetable for exact date and time. MCCP courses should take priority Exemption for MCCP6010 and MCCP6020 8

Other Courses The 9 /19-unit (MPhil/PhD) of other postgraduate-level courses can be : HKBU Courses Course add/drop period (10-22 January 2022) Cross-Institutional Courses o Subject to the approval of your Principal Supervisor and Department Head. o Upon fulfilment of the grading requirement (equivalent to Grade B- or above at our University), units acquired will be transferred automatically. The transcript will be sent to you via your Faculty/School. (Note: Only the equivalent unit will be transferred.) o The grades will not be counted in the calculation of GPA and will not be shown in the transcript. 9

  10. MPhil- Confirmation of Candidature Between the 9thand 12th month Complete MCCP Submit a research prospectus You must complete MCCP (and English enhancement course, if applicable) in order to confirm your candidature. 10

PhD- Qualifying Exam and Confirmation of Candidature Take qualifying exam between the 13th-18thmonth Complete coursework (including MCCP) Confirm candidature by the 30thmonth Submit a research prospectus and conduct an open seminar You must complete all coursework, except research seminars (and English enhancement course, if applicable) before qualifying exam. 11

  13. Thesis and Examination Confirm your thesis title Submit your thesis Sit for Oral Examination Submit final thesis Research Seminars should be completed before the submission of thesis for oral examination. 13

  14. Submission of Thesis Before submitting your thesis online, you will need to go through the Plagiarism Check and attach the report with the thesis. IMPORTANT: You have the responsibilities to ensure that the Board of Examiners are provided with adequate time to review the thesis. Please reserve ample time between submission of thesis and oral examination, especially if you wish to meet the graduation deadline for Commencement. 14

  15. Final Thesis All theses will be deposited in the Integrated Research Information Management System (IRIMS) and are available for open access to the community. 15

  21. Progress Reviews Submit your Bi-Annual Progress Report on time every 6 months. Conduct self-reflection Lay out the study plan Maintain regular contact with your Supervisors. Input your ORCiD (Open Researcher and Contributer ID) in Bi-Annual Progress Report 21

Residency Requirement Research students are required to be on campus or in such geographical proximity as to be able to participate fully in University activities associated with the programmes for at least the required residence period. Regardless of the mode of study (i.e., full-time or part-time), a student who is receiving regular supervision in Hong Kong or in a location approved by the University is classified as being in residence. The required residence period for research postgraduate studies is equivalent to half of the relevant normal study period. All research postgraduate students must fulfil the residency requirement before thesis submission. 22

Research Ethics Academic Integrity and Plagiarism Research Ethics Approval (Research Ethics Committee) o Students need to develop a practice of obtaining relevant ethical clearance for their research projects. If student s project is part of their supervisor s project of which relevant approval is obtained, students need to provide information in their application. If in doubt, ask your Faculty RPg Coordinator/ Department/PS. 25

  27. English Enhancement Course(s) Language Centre will offer English enhancement course to students who do not meet the English admission requirement in semester 1. 27

  28. Research Student Expenses Full-time PhD / MPhil students; and Studentship recipients during the normal study period Eligibility Items can be claimed A. International Conference/ Seminar B. *Overseas Attachment C. Others (Field Trip, Study Tour, etc.) PhD students: Max. HK$20,000 MPhil students: Max. HK$10,000 *Travelling Allowance of HK$10,000 to cover airfare can be applied (Please talk to your PS if interested) D. Thesis Editing Fee Max. HK$6,000 (one-off) E. Incentive for Oral Presentation at International Conferences HK$3,000 (one-off) HKPFS students travelling allowance/research students expenses are different from regular students. Please refer to your Terms & Conditions. 28

Research Student Expenses (2-staged process for Reimbursement) Stage 2: Apply for Reimbursement Stage 1: Obtain prior budget approval from GS Before the event After the event Complete the Application for Budget Approval with the endorsement of your Principal Supervisor, Department, and Faculty. Complete the Application for Reimbursement within 1 week after you have returned to HK. Submit the application together with event-related payment proof to GS for vetting /approval. Submit the endorsed-application together with all supporting documents to GS at least 3 weeks before the event. Finance Office arranges reimbursement. GS will notify you of the budget approval via e-mail. The processing time depends on your timely submission and provision of relevant supporting documents (e.g. itinerary and receipts). 29

  35. Part-time employment 1. For studentship recipients, please get approval from the Graduate School before you undertake any part-time employment. (for non-local students) 2. May take up part-time on campus employment for no more than 20 hours 3.
