Statement of Federal Financial Accounting Standards (SFFAS) 1 defines:
 
Accounts receivable 
arise from claims to cash or other assets.

contract performance made by, and rents due to other entities” and 
excludes
 “on-going continuous
expenses such as employees' salary and benefits.”
