The Reward of Persevering Faith Ruth 2
The Providence of God is like Hebrew words - it can be read only backwards. John Flavel
The providence of God assures the believer that their perseverance is worth it. What is the reward for believers who persevere in faith?
I. For those who persevere, God will provide His grace. (2:1-3)
Leviticus 19:9-10 When you reap the harvest of your land, you are not to reap to the very edge of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. 10 Do not strip your vineyard bare or gather its fallen grapes. Leave them for the poor and the resident alien; I am the Lord your God.
Gods solution to earthly suffering is not to take away the trials to make earth a paradise. His answer to suffering is to give us more of himself and his all-sufficient grace so that we have enough to endure the trials.
II. For those who persevere, God will provide His refuge. (2:4-16)
Hebrews 11:6 Now without faith it is impossible to please God, since the one who draws near to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
Psalms 36:7 How priceless your faithful love is, God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
III. For those who persevere, God will provide His kindness (2:17-23)
The providence of God assures the believer that their perseverance is worth it. What is the reward for believers who persevere in faith?
The providence of God assures the believer that their perseverance is worth it. What is the reward for believers who persevere in faith? The reward for believers who persevere in faith is Christ! By His providence, God gave His Son for your redemption and His Spirit as the fountain of all grace, refuge, and kindness in this life.
God does not simply see as a passive bystander. As God, he is never merely an observer. He is not a passive observer of the world and not a passive predictor of the future. Wherever God is looking God is acting. In other words, there is a profound theological reason why God s providence does not merely mean his seeing, but rather his seeing to. When God sees something, he sees to it. John Piper
