Ruth's Faithfulness and Jesus' Teachings
Naomi advises Ruth to approach Boaz to secure their future. Ruth follows the instructions and eventually marries Boaz, blessing Naomi with a grandson named Obed, who becomes the grandfather of King David. In contrast, Jesus warns against hypocrisy and praises a poor widow's sacrificial offering over the ostentatious acts of the wealthy.

OT Reading: Ruth 3:1 5, 4:13 17
Ruth 3:1 5, 4:13 17 1 Some time later Naomi said to Ruth, I must find a husband for you, so that you will have a home of your own. 2 Remember that this man Boaz, whose women you have been working with, is our relative. Now listen. This evening he will be threshing the barley. 3 So wash yourself, put on some perfume, and get dressed in your best clothes. Then go where he is threshing, but don't let him know you are there until he has finished eating and drinking.
Ruth 3:1 5, 4:13 17 4 Be sure to notice where he lies down, and after he falls asleep, go and lift the covers and lie down at his feet. He will tell you what to do. 5 Ruth answered, I will do everything you say. 13 So Boaz took Ruth home as his wife. The Lord blessed her, and she became pregnant and had a son. 14 The women said to Naomi, Praise the Lord! He has given you a grandson today to take care of you. May the boy become famous in Israel!
Ruth 3:1 5, 4:13 17 15 Your daughter-in-law loves you, and has done more for you than seven sons. And now she has given you a grandson, who will bring new life to you and give you security in your old age. 16 Naomi took the child, held him close, and took care of him. 17 The women of the neighborhood named the boy Obed. They told everyone, A son has been born to Naomi! Obed became the father of Jesse, who was the father of David.
Gospel Reading: Mark 12:38 44
Mark 12:38 44 38 As he taught them, he said, Watch out for the teachers of the Law, who like to walk around in their long robes and be greeted with respect in the marketplace, 39 who choose the reserved seats in the synagogues and the best places at feasts. 40 They take advantage of widows and rob them of their homes, and then make a show of saying long prayers. Their punishment will be all the worse!
Mark 12:38 44 41 As Jesus sat near the Temple treasury, he watched the people as they dropped in their money. Many rich men dropped in a lot of money; 42 then a poor widow came along and dropped in two little copper coins, worth about a penny. 43 He called his disciples together and said to them, I tell you that this poor widow put more in the offering box than all the others. 44 For the others put in what they had to spare of their riches; but she, poor as she is, put in all she had she gave all she had to live on.
