The Daniel Fast: 8 Steps Fasting for spiritual Breakthrough by Elmer L. Towns Step 1: Be Specific: Clearly define the problem and propose a solution, as Daniel did. Daniel was specific in his objection to the Babylonian diet. Step 2: Fast as a Spiritual Commitment: It's not just a diet adjustment but a spiritual commitment to God. Daniel purposed in his heart not to defile himself (Daniel 1:8). Fasting is more than a physical solution; it requires a spiritual equation.

Towns Aim: Specifically, I am fasting to____________ Vow: I believe God has given me my physical, mental and emotional nature in which to glorify Him. Fast: What I will withhold__________ Beginning: Date and time I will start__________ End: Date and time I will stop___________
Preparing for the Daniel Fast - Plan Bible Basis: Is this not the fast that I have chosen . . . your healing shall spring forth speedily (Isa. 58:6, 8). Fasting for spiritual Breakthrough by Elmer L. Towns Resources Needed: _____________. Signed ____________ Date _____________
Different resources have different regulations for what can and cannot be consumed while on the fast. Generally speaking, the eating plan is comparable to a vegan diet. No: All meat and animal products are disallowed (meat, eggs, fish, dairy) Sweeteners (added sugar and natural sweeteners like honey or agave) Solid fats, yeast, Caffeine, alcohol Additives, and processed foods. Side Notes Yes: Vegetables Fruits Legumes, whole grains, nuts, seeds water
Final Thoughts The Daniel Fast can be a helpful way to focus on God. Changing our habits and not relying so much on the comforts of food can be a physical reminder that we rely on God. As you enter the Daniel Fast, be certain of your motives and make steps to use the fast in a way that will be spiritually beneficial. For example, spend more time with God in prayer and in reading His Word while on the fast. Also, be certain to prepare in advance for the dietary changes. Without proper preparation, the Daniel Fast could cause an overemphasis on food instead of being a tool for spiritual growth. Pray for God s wisdom before beginning, and then trust Him to guide along the way.
Conclusion - Prayer If every Christian fasted, the results could shake our society like a windstorm bending a sapling. Christians would demonstrate that they live differently, that their faith is imperative, that the Almighty works in their daily lives. Emer L. Towns
