EXAMPLE 1: COURSEWORK FOR SPEC ED 7- 12 EXPANSION Initial program application ($200 fee): EGP Grades PK-4 cert (program and coursework) Special Education PK-8 cert (program and coursework) Once these certificates get issued by PDE, a candidate can then apply for a Special Education 7-12 EXPANSION [Special Education Expansion 7-12 (9229)] on a separate application ($200 fee): Must complete WCU coursework: EDA 414 OR EDA 515 No additional testing required
EXAMPLE 1: COURSEWORK FOR SPEC ED PK-8 EXPANSION Initial program application ($200 fee): English BSED 7-12 (program and coursework) Special Education 7-12 cert (program and coursework) Once these certificates get issued by PDE, a candidate can then apply for a Special Education PK-8 EXPANSION in TIMS [Special Education Expansion PK-8 (9228)] on a separate application ($200 fee): Must complete WCU coursework: EDA 413 OR EDA 514 No additional testing required
EXAMPLE 3: TESTING ONLY Testing option with no coursework: Complete an application ($200 fee) for a Special Education PK-8 EXPANSION Must have passed Special Education PreK-8 (PECT 8011 & 8012) tests - current price as of 7/2019 is $87 for both modules or $50 for each module Must already hold a certificate in Special Education 7-12 No coursework needed OR Complete an application ($200 fee) for a Special Education 7-12 EXPANSION Must have passed Special Education 7-12 (PECT 8015 & 8016) tests - current price as of 7/2019 is $87 for both modules or $50 for each module Must already hold a certificate in Special Education PK-8 No coursework needed
ADD-ONS: POLICY CHANGES After September 1, 2019, candidates are no longer allowed to add-on an additional credential to their application at no cost. Applicants will still be able to add-on additional certificate areas by testing but will need to submit separate applications in TIMS for testing add-on areas, ESL program specialist and endorsements upon approval of their initial PA certificates. Example: Grades PK-4 certificate holder must submit a separate application ($200 fee) for the Grades 5&6 add-on via testing
