Seasons of Revival and Restoration Psalm 85
No You showed favor to your land, O Lord; you restored the fortunes of Jacob. You forgave the iniquity of your people and covered all their sins. You set aside all your wrath and turned from your fierce anger. Psalm 85:1-3 NIV
The Glorious Past of Gods People No God had shown them great favor He had rescued them from slavery in Egypt He had given them the promise land And he had forgiven them of all their sins This is a great picture of our own Salvation! Colossians 1:13-14
The Glorious Past of Gods People No He had promised them a great future if . . . If they kept His commands and obeyed His precepts Deuteronomy 27 - 28; Joshua 1:6-9 And If they remained faithful to Him Joshua 24:14-27 But they didn t; and that s often true of our own walk with God!
No Restore us again, O God our Savior, and put away your displeasure toward us. Will you be angry with us forever? Will you prolong your anger through all generations? Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you? Show us your unfailing love, O Lord, and grant us your salvation. Psalm 85:4-7 NIV
Their Apathy and Disobedience No They became distracted by the world They began lusting after the things of the world and worshipping the false gods of their neighbors We see this cycle of disobedience repeated over and over again in the book of Judges! Judges 2:6-23 And we see it in our own lives too! 1 John 2:15-17
Their Apathy and Disobedience No God disciplined them once again They were exiled into Babylonian captivity 2 Chronicles 36:14-21; Daniel, Ezekiel While in captivity they began crying out to the Lord, and God had mercy on them Ezra 1:1-4 They returned home to Jerusalem and there was a great revival! Ezra; Nehemiah; Psalm 85:8-9 We need a revival today! Hebrews 12:7-11; James 4:6-10
No I will listen to what God the Lord will say; he promises peace to his people, his saints but let them not return to folly. Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land. Psalm 85:8-9 NIV
Their Revival and Restoration No Revival begins with listening and obeying! Listen to what the Lord says and do it Psalm 85:8-9; James 1:21-25 Don t return to folly Psalm 85:9; Romans 12:2; 1 Tim. 6:6-10 God wants to bless us, but notwhen we re disobedient! Psalm 85:9; John 10:10
No Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other. Faithfulness springs forth from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven. The Lord will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest. Righteousness goes before him and prepares the way for his steps. Psalm 85:10-13 NIV
