Race across the world KS3 challenge Objectives: To be able to plan a route across a continent, using as little money as possible To have fun and potentially win a prize in the process!
Race across the world KS3 challenge For the summer holidays we have a final project for you to undertake for your work in Geography this year. It is based around the Race Across the World series that was on BBC2 recently. Follow the instructions on the next slide and then submit your work to your Geography teacher. You won t be set any other work during this time! The winning entry will receive a prize of a 20 high street voucher and there will also be smaller prizes for those pupils that come 2ndand 3rd. The deadline for submissions is FRIDAY 28THAUGUST. Good luck and enjoy!
The task instructions 1.Watch the first episode of series 2 of Race Across the World on the BBC iPlayer at this link: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000g6nt/race-across-the-world-series-2- episode-1. (There are more episodes available - you can watch them all if you want to!) 2. Choose one of these continents: Asia Africa North America South America Europe 3. Choose 2 places to travel between at opposite ends of your chosen continent e.g. if you chose Europe you may pick Madrid and Moscow. 4. Split the journey into sections (between 4 and 6). You may wish to produce a summary table to show each section of the journey with approximate distances between each place, and the total distance for your journey in your table. 5. Plan each section of the journey (as if there were no Covid 19 related travel restrictions!), including the following: How you will travel? Like in the programme, air travel is not allowed! Where will you stay each night? What you will visit on the way? Think interesting sights, museums, historical attractions you decide! What will the costs be? Calculate an approximate cost for each section of the journey and total cost for the trip. Try to be as thrifty as possible; the show s contestants get very little money! How will your journey impact the environment? Can you calculate a rough carbon footprint for your journey? What could you do to reduce this? You can choose how to present your work, a PowerPoint, leaflet, video, etc. As long as you can email it to your teacher. I have included an example for you on the next slide.
