  12. Sportsmanship Code Odessa High School actively promotes and educates our coaches, student-athletes and spectators in the practice of good sportsmanship and appropriate behavior both on and off the field of competition. We expect that our participants will respect opponents and officials, and that show of respect is what makes competition a positive experience. We promote sportsmanship through positive behaviors and are proactive in preventing unsportsmanlike conduct.

  13. Sportsmanship Expectations Adhere to the DIAA, NFHS, ASD, and OHS policies at all times Encourage our student-athletes to perform their best with positive cheers Respect our opponents as student-athletes and acknowledge them for doing their best Promote good sportsmanship by supporting the game officials in a positive manner realizing they are an essential part of every game Respect the tasks our coaches face and support them as they strive to educate our youth Encourage sportsmanlike conduct with class, dignity, and respect towards any coach, player, participant, official, parent, or any other attendee under all circumstances. Profanity, Booing, or Heckling, inappropriate remarks or gestures, yelling at a student athlete by name or number. Repeatedly yelling at an official or coach during a game are unacceptable and will not be tolerated at OHS

  14. Lets Go Ducks! Practices Practice is not optional, Practice is not Drop In. It doesn t matter WHY you re not at practice... If you re not at practice you can t expect to play! Communication is key! Students need to communicate with coaches

  15. Communication Communication you should expect from your child s coach: 1. The coach s philosophy 2. Expectations the coach had for your child and the team 3. Locations and times of practices and contests 4. Team requirements like fees, equipment, fundraising, off-season conditioning 5. Procedures that should be followed should your child be injured during the season 6. Disciplinary procedures that result in the denial of your child s participation

  16. Communication Expectations from Athletics Families 1. Concerns expressed directly to the coach AFTER the athlete has spoken to the Coach 24 HOUR RULE 2. Notification of any schedule conflicts well in advance of a practice or event 3. Specific concern in regards to expectations As your child becomes involved in athletics they will experience some of the most rewarding times of their lives. It is important to understand that there will also be times when things don't go your child s way. At these times we encourage discussions with the coach. Appropriate concerns to discuss with the coach: 1. The treatment of your child mentally and physically 2. Ways to help your child improve 3. Concerns about your child s behavior

  17. ISSUES THAT ARE INAPPROPRIATE TO DISCUSS WITH COACHES 1. Playing time 2. Team Strategy 3. Play calling 4. Other students
