Nakkertok hosted its Spring Meeting of Members on April 28th, 2018, at Nakkertok South. The agenda included introductions, a review of activities and accomplishments, board renewal discussions, and volunteer awards. The event showcased the dedication of the 2017/18 Board as they outlined their mission to excel in cross-country skiing in the Ottawa/Gatineau region. To achieve excellence in cross-country skiing and to grow the interest in skiing within the Ottawa/Gatineau region, through a club community that provides facilities and learning support to all ages of skiers and their families R e a d t h i s S l i d e Mission Mandate Enable individuals and families to enjoy cross-country skiing in a safe, family-friendly environment that teaches cross country ski techniques and the benefits and enjoyment of outdoor activity Recreation A Cross Country Community Provide coaching and training for competitive cross country ski racers that allows them to pursue and achieve their full potential in cross-country ski competition Racing Competitive Program Create and maintain high quality cross country ski facilities that can support both recreational skiing as well as host high caliber cross-country skiing competitive events Quality Facilities We will collaborate with, and provide support to other organizations pursuing similar mandates in the Ottawa/Gatineau region.
Activities & Accomplishments Racing Program 2017 - 2018 Racing Program accomplishments in 2017 / 2018 are a product of: 268 athletes 53 certified volunteer coaches 3 full-time paid coaches 3 part-time paid coaches and 1 part-time wax tech 55 volunteer wax technicians 22 club trips/training camps 530 Training sessions 9 Consecutive National Championships 5
Activities & Accomplishments Racing Program 2017 - 2018 1stPlace Club Podium New National Racing Club Ranking System To recognize and promote club successes Club Podium Criteria: Number of CCC licensed athletes (as per final CPL distance) YoY progression of athletes on distance and sprint CPL Athletes meeting International Points Benchmarks for their age Number of athletes taking part in CCUNC ranking at Nationals Number of CCC licensed coaches and NCP Status 6
LTS Program Activities & Accomplishments 2017-18 Cold weather meant rough start to the season 292 kids in NS across all levels; down from 304 last year likely some moves to Racing and Adventure 15 adult beginners (down from 27 last year); continued interest in more advanced skills/skate skiing Brought in more youth coaches which worked well LTS Board rep, session coordinators and Head of Hares all open for next year please email learntoski@nakkertok.ca if interested! 7
Activities & Accomplishments Adventure Program 2017 - 2018 68 Athletes Divided into three age groups: Fishers (9-10) = 16 Athletes and 3 coaches (8F/8M) Wapoos (11 to 12) = 30 athletes and 9 coaches (22F/8M) Adventure (13 to 18) = 22 athletes and 3 coaches (16F/6M) 5 Female coaches/ 3 Alumni Coaches / 2 Jr Coaches Fall Fun Run success! Adirondacks Trip - 20 athletes summited Mount Marcy. Women in the Woods Seminar for Female Athlete Development. Fall Camping, Winter Camping and Canoe Camping 93 youth participants completed a combined total of 340 sections at the CSM. 3 Adventure Athletes completed the half ski marathon! 8
Activities & Accomplishments Nakkertok Events 2017 - 2018 1,600 participants in Nakkertok events from the October Fall Fun Run to the Enduro in April. Shout outs to Steve Paradine and Alain Nicole for multiple years of Thea s Race organizing Shout out to the Cookie Race organizers who have created a succession plan for this signature event Thea s Race moved to NS at the last minute Next year, the Weber Loppet by hook or by crook Over 800 racers skied Easterns Level 1, 2 Officials Course (headed by Jim McCarthy) and a Level 3 Course at Easterns Next year, the 2019 Nationals 9
Ski4Life Program Activities & Accomplishments 2017 - 2018 Program focused on intermediate to advanced adult skiers Third year of the program Ran Tuesday nights through the fall and winter focusing on fitness, agility, technique and yoga 28 participants for 2017-2018 season and 4 coaches 10
Activities & Accomplishments XC Ski Fast 2017 - 2018 9 instructors ran 27 sessions reaching 1200 new skiers and snowshoers. Partnered with Drop In Sports to offer ski and snowshoe to 60 new Canadians, free of charge! Governor General s Winter Celebration gave 500+ people chance to ski and snowshoe Participated in Nakkertok Open House and got 50 local people out on skis and 20 on snowshoes Ski on Parliament Hill as part of National Health and Fitness Day promotions Collaborated with Gatineau Loppet to get nearly 250 local Quebec kids on skis, snowshoes and enjoying time outside Difficult for schools to fund trips to Nakkertok, so we ski in their yards when conditions permit. This was almost impossible due to bad Jan-Feb conditions. 7 sessions were canceled - and could not be rebooked - due to poor weather and in 1 case the perception of bad conditions at NS 11
Activities & Accomplishments Nakkertok North: Part 1 2017 - 2018 Overall numbers were down slightly this year: membership (50), LTS program (40) and day use. Volunteers from VdM are starting to become engaged in Nakkertok s LTS program Steps are being taking to boost the numbers back up 12
Activities & Accomplishments Nakkertok North: Part 2 2017 - 2018 The Municipality of Val des Monts and Nakkertok Have agreed to a new land / building / use of facility agreement VdM becomes the owners of the property/buildings effective May 11, 2018 Nakkertok will during the ski season: Continue to manage trails and facilities Be reimbursed for such management Be allowed to use the facilities free of charge VdM will Invest in the property Take care of some building facility expenses Pay $2 / citizen for the right to ski at Nakk North VdM residents will Be able to use the trail system free of charge Become Nakkertok members to access LTS programming at Nakk North A special management committee will be set up: Comprised of 2 from Nakkertok, 2 from VdM, 2 citizens of VdM and 1 rep from Ski de Fond des Colines Reporting to the BoD through the NN representative To determine how the citizen levy are spent / invested From a member perspective, NN will remain basically the same Financially this is a win / win for Nakkertok and VdM 13
Trails and Facilities Activities & Accomplishments 2017 - 2018 Snowmaking Highlights - Nov 9, 2017 started making snow - Skiing on November 11 - Made 13,000 cubic meters of snow - Added 30+ days to the ski season - Demonstrated capability - Had teams come to ski Nakkertrak The Ski Season - Skied Nov 11, 2017 Apr 11, 2018 - Five months of skiing - Club had no closed days - Month of February was more ice than snow, grooming challenges - Thea s Race moved to NS - Just too bad about the Loppet weekend (again this year)

Status: Nakkertok Budget FY17-18 numbers are being finalized Still working to finalize the new FY18-19 budget Target in the next 2 weeks a balanced budget with conservative assumptions 17

1) Skifast (2018/19) Expand the Mandate QC based schools Corporate accounts / Government accounts / Embassies? Offer Semiprivate lessons Expand the season and marketing to 3.5 months from 2 months Enhance income generation: Maximize use of NS (more predictable conditions) Reschedule if necessary by admin charge for cancellations Work on grants (e.g., FIS Solidarity Grant for Schools/New Canadians) Do you have workplace event that could be held at Nakkertok? 4) 2019 Nationals 92nd running of the Ski Nationals 2019 Awarded to ENGNE Nakkertok, Skinouk, Chelsea, Gatineau Loppet Hosted at Nakkertok: March 13 to 20th The model is very Eastern s like Nakkertok is paid for facility use Nakkertok proportionally shares in the profits based on number and type of volunteers Anticipated 850+ skiers from across Canada and the US Plus WC skiers to prep for WC finals in Quebec the following weekend 24
4) 2019 Nationals: T&F improvements* Parking and Roads Add gravel for springtime use Add drainage where necessary Possible widening Add signage and lighting Ski Trail Network Reapply for FIS certification existing trails Expand to FIS certified 7.5km course and possibly 8.3km course, for a 50k Level and smoothen trails for lower snow level Improve drainage as required. Snow Making Network Extend piping network: i) North under Powerline, ii) West up Peri s way and Collarbone 25 * level of improvements depending on grants coming through
