How do passwords work? Passwords stop criminals from accessing things you want to protect online (like email, or online shopping). They work in the same way that a combination lock stops people stealing your valuables. If you don t know the combination, you can t open the lock! If a criminal doesn t know your password, they can t access your email, or your online shopping account.
Creating a good password A good password is one that nobody else can guess (even people who know you very well). Your favourite football team would make a bad password. Random words and characters make good passwords (t6*jkd8asfs), but are hard for you to remember. You can create your own strong password by combining three random words into a single password. Pink + Bird + Sprouts = pinkbirdsprouts To make it easier to remember, think of a silly idea, or a picture in your head. The more unusual it is, the harder it is for a criminal to guess. Silly is good , but it must be random!
