Introduction 2 1927 by Edward Kellog Strong, Jr. To give insight into a person's interests, for career choice Interest =the feeling of wanting to know or learn about something or someone He used interests on a dimension of liking to disliking to discriminate among various occupations For high school students, college students, and adults. "Strong Vocational Interest Blank in 1927 revised by Jo-Ida Hansen, and David Campbell the Strong-Campbell Interest Inventory (1974) combined both the men's and the women's forms into a single form. Other improvements -the use of 124 occupational scales, the continued use of 23 Basic Interest Scales, and the addition of 2 special scales to measure academic comfort and introversion/extroversion dimensions. https://www.careershodh.com/
Strong vocational interest blank(SVIB) 3 There were 420 items -responses-Like, Indifferent or Dislike. There were 8 sections in which the items were divided- 1. Occupations 2. School Subjects 3. Activities (Repairing a clock, preparing a speech) 4. Leisure Activities 5. Types of people ( old people, Military people ) 6. Preferences between paired activities. (Dealing with things Vs. Dealing with people ) 7. Paring between four items of work (Data things people and ideas ) 8. self descriptive answers about oneself (Responses- Yes ,no, ?) The Holland Codes 6 I: Thinkers (Investigative) People who are "intellectual, introspective, inquisitive, curious, methodical, rational, analytical, and logical. tasks -scholarly, scientific, technical, or medical Activities-involve thought, observation, investigation, exploration, and discovery They like to solve problems, perform experiments, and conduct research. Careers include: Carpenter, Chemist, Computer engineering/Computer programmer, Counselor, professor A: Creators (Artistic) People who "are creative, intuitive, sensitive, expressive, unstructured, original, nonconforming, and innovative rely on feelings, imagination , inspiration [and who] are spontaneous and open- minded." Work - ideas, abstractions, and concepts. Strong Interest Inventory 9 Latest (2004) inventory consists of 291 items that measure an individual's interest in six areas: The first 282 items options: "strongly like", "like", "indifferent", "dislike", or "strongly dislike Your Characteristics different options including: "strongly like me", "like me", "don t know", "unlike me", or "strongly unlike me It is an assessment of interests, and not to be confused with personality assessments or aptitude test. https://www.careershodh.com/
Strong Interest Inventory 10 Time 30-45 minutes scored by computer only personal interests compare with the interests of people in a specific career field. Results include: Scores on six Holland Codes or General Occupational Themes (GOTs). 30 Basic Interest Scales (e.g. art, science, and public speaking) 244 Occupational Scales which indicate the similarity between the respondent's interests and those of people working in each of the 122 occupations. 5 Personal Style Scales (learning, working, leadership, risk-taking and team orientation). 3 Administrative Scales used to identify test errors or unusual profiles. Strong Interest Inventory 11 Critical Analysis: The test has been gone through many revisions till now and is up to date. So, can be used today. It has very good reliability and validity. The test gives a good estimate of job satisfaction and job persistence but, not of job success. That means, it estimates interests but not ability. And hence, it cannot be used as the only measure to choose an occupation. Ability tests should also be equally used. The profile form provided to the test taker is comprehensive. It gives a wide insight into a person s interests. Also, the norms for men and women are given separately which helps in better prediction of the interests. https://www.careershodh.com/
