  10. Example Role Play 1: Student A You want to apply for the job you saw on an advertisement. Call Lochlin PLC. Ask for Laurie Thompson. Role Play 1: Student B You work for Lochlin PLC. You receive a call for your colleague, Laurie Thompson. Laurie is not in the office at the moment. Take the caller s details Say that Laurie will call him/her back.

  11. Role Play Advice Do you read the role play script aloud? NO. Take one minute and read it to yourself. If the script says, Your name is Laurie Thompson, what is your name? Laurie Thompson If the script does not say your name, what is your name? Your English Name If the other student asks you for your phone number and the script does not have a phone number, what should you do? Make up a phone number. (i.e. 123-4567-8910) Hang up the phone when you finish.

A: I ll have Laurie call you back as soon as she gets back. B: Thank you. Bye!

Ask about how you can apply for the job. Find out the closing date for the application. Role Play 2: Student B Your name is Laurie Thompson. Callthe person who called about the job advertisement. Offer to send an application form. Tell the applicant that the closing date for the application is two weeks from today.

  15. 2nd Role Play! (Was your conversation like this?) B: Hi. This is Laurie Thompson. I m returning your call about the open sales job at Lochlin, PLC. A: Yes. How can I apply for the job? B: You ll just need to fill out an application form. I can send it to you, if you d like. A: Sure. You can send it to my email: AnneSmith82@qq.com When is the closing date for the application? B: The application is due two weeks from today. Do you have any other questions? A: No. Thank you. Goodbye!

Speaker B works for named Doctor Huang s dental office. That office called last Friday about wanting to buy a newspaper subscription for the Doctor s office. CALL Speaker B. Offer the caller a 7-day subscription for a price Confirm the day you will deliver the first newspaper Confirm the delivery address What is the price? What is the day you said you would deliver the first newspaper? You offer a 7-day subscription. Why?

Last week, you called the SpringfieldDaily newspaper delivery office wanting a newspaper subscription. They did not answer. Your phone rings. ANSWER the phone. Introduce yourself and the company you work for If asked about newspaper subscriptions order a one year, five-day per week subscription starting in November. Confirm the price of the newspaper. Why are you ordering a newspaper for the dentist office? (Who is reading it?) Why do you want a 5-day subscription instead of a 7-day subscription?
