Speed read word find time!! How quickly can you find the following words by skimming and scanning the page? Page 41 beyond Page 44 constant Page 46 time Page 51 perhaps Page 56 - consoled
Tricky Vocabulary Chapter 3 Tricky Vocabulary Chapter 3 (20 Look at the following words - Without using a dictionary have a guess at what these words may mean - Looking at the beginning and end of the word (the prefix and suffix) and the root word (main part that makes sense on its own) may give you some clues. Tricky Vocabulary Chapter 3 Tricky Vocabulary Chapter 3 - - definitions definitions - - - - - - Dismal - causing or showing the feeling of being sad Mantelpiece - a shelf above a fireplace Undetected - not noticed by anyone Incomprehensible - impossible to understand Modest - not very large, expensive, important, etc. Disgust - a strong feeling of dislike for somebody/something that you feel is unacceptable, or for something that looks, smells, etc. unpleasant Steely - (of a person s character or behaviour) strong, hard and unfriendly Deceit - dishonest behaviour that is intended to make somebody believe something that is not true Tirade - (against somebody/something) a long angry speech criticizing somebody/something or accusing somebody of something - - -
Read through Chapter 3 of Mr Nobodys Eyes Please read at least half of the chapter aloud, either to yourself or an adult. Remember to think about your expression and flow. Sound out unfamiliar words carefully.

Why hadn t Harry actually seen Signor Blondini at the circus? 4. Page 51 top of the page. What does the word insolent mean? 5. At the end of the chapter, where do you think Harry is planning to take Ocky? Why?

Questions that try and find out more information than a basic simple question. The are questions that are looking for detailed answers. 3. Page 46. Why hadn t Harry actually seen Signor Blondini at the circus? Because he doesn t go out to the front of the circus anymore, he stays in the back and looks after money and walks Ocky. 4. Page 51 top of the page. What does the word insolent mean? rude/arrogant/disrespectful 5. At the end of the chapter, where do you think Harry is planning to take Ocky? This question is down to your thoughts, try and link where you think he will take him to something/some where you already know about in the book.

Tricky Vocabulary Chapter 4 (20 mins) Smog - a form of air pollution that is or looks like a mixture of smoke and fog, especially in cities Nonchalantly in a calm and relaxed way, showing no sign of worry Loomed to appear as a large shape that is not clear, especially in a frightening way Precarious (of a situation) not safe or certain; dangerous Sheer used to emphasize the size, degree or amount of something Absorbed very interested in something/somebody so that you are not paying attention to anything else Fastidious being careful that every detail of something is correct Hooting to make a loud noise Passionately - in a way that shows strong feelings

What has gone missing and how do you think this will make Harry feel?

Ocky was standing on the kitchen table trying to peel the paper off the wall above her head. 2. Page 62. What 4 things did Harry find for Ocky to eat? Apple, two onions and a cabbage. 3. Page 64 (top of page) Which word shows that Harry was not very good at chasing Ocky? ineffectually (which means without achieving much) 4. Page 66. Why was Harry glad there was a lot of smog? Because it was harder for people to see him trying to not go to school / It made it easier for him to sneak away / It s harder to see people in smog. 5. Page 68. What has gone missing and how do you think this will make Harry feel? His fathers medal. Harry will be really upset as this meant a lot to him, it reminds him of his father, and can t be replaced (it s irreplaceable).
