Set an expectation from the beginning that every night they will complete homework and read at home Ask about what they learned that day and stay involved in when projects and tests are due---utilize a calendar for the whole family! Monitor your child's grades from the parent portal See what work they are missing and talk to them about how they can complete that work for credit. Communicate with teachers via email or your child s agenda and plan to attend parent/teacher conferences

  31. Monitor Monitor what your child does online and set restrictions Take their phone away at night, know their passwords, monitor social media you can see what they are doing by connecting your phone and theirs talk to your wireless company about this. Know who your child s friends are. Talk with them about influences with them and how to handle peer pressure Middle school is a time when peers opinions become very important to your child.

  32. Advocate Teach your child how to advocate for themselves Encourage them to communicate with their teachers via email, face to face, or when they come in for tutoring.
