 What is the MYP?

The IBO defines the MYP as “a challenging framework that
encourages students to make practical connections between
their studies and the real world”.

The MYP curriculum is comprised of eight subject groups.
These eight courses provide a broad and balanced education
for our students.

Language Acquisition
Individuals and Societies
Sciences
Mathematics
The Arts
Physical and Health Education Design

What makes MYP
different from PYP?

Hillsborough County
curriculum is infused into
the unit planner.
Each IB unit planner
includes 3 Inquiry Based
questions that are used to
jumpstart the learning
process.
o
Inquiry Boards

MYP UNIT PLANNERS

Each content area creates a
minimum of 4 IB unit
planners per school year
These IB unit planners are
centered around a Key
Concept, multiple Related
Concepts and 6 Global
Contexts

What makes MYP
different from PYP?

Each assessment will
have a rubric to ensure
students know the
requirements needed to
for mastery.
All IB assessments will be
kept in their IB portfolios.
IB report cards will be
distributed twice a year
and only contain the
grades from their IB
assessments.

MYP Assessments
Each unit planner must
include at least one
Summative Assessment
Each summative
assessment is connected
to an IB Criterion (A, B, C
and D).
All IB assessments are
graded using a 1-8 scale.

What makes MYP
different from PYP?

Every unit ends with some
form of “action”. Action
doesn’t necessarily have to be
something the students do, but
could be a change that was
made within themselves.

Examples of service/action our
MYP students have
participated in:
o
World’s Largest Lesson
o
Thanksgiving Food Drive
o
Holiday Toy Drive
o
Meals on Wheels
o
Let Girls Learn campaign
o
Relief for Haiti

MYP Service and Action

Our MYP students are
“Leaders of Service”. They are
taking the skills and
knowledge they have learned
from PYP and will work on
taking leadership roles when
it comes to service and action
in and out of our school.
