WHAT IS JACOBS LADDER? Jacob's Ladder is a learning journey for students which begins with targeted readings from fables, myths and nonfiction sources and moves through an inquiry process from basic understanding to critical analyses of the texts read.
THE INSIDE SCOOP TO JACOBS LADDER Designed to differentiate reading instruction for students based on research- based models Designed so that students may gain independence in reading and analyzing literature- Work consistently at higher levels of achievement Designed to improve writing as students will respond to open-ended questions that will improve test performance
GOALS & OBJECTIVES OF JACOB S LADDER To move students from simple to complex, critical reading skills. Jacob s ladder consist of Four ladders with three levels of comprehension on each ladder. Lower rungs are basic comprehension Highest rungs promote critical thinking skills

SUGGESTION/TIMELINE Plan: Pre-read the passage and pull out the vocabulary Day 1: Build background about the topic and introduce the vocabulary Day 2: Read the passage; use the task FSA stems to guide your questions; and have students respond using accountable talk. Day 3: Complete the ladder
