Reading books At Home . Read Aloud with your kids Practicing their Guided Readers Making links to print around us Show Reading for enjoyment.
How to help kids with Reading Read at home to your children. Model reading for enjoyment or for learning (recipes, news, manuals, grocery list, etc).
Make links to print Make connections to print all around you . at the grocery store at home in the community Making connections to print
Strategies for Reading 1. Read daily with your child. Reading in their native language facilitates L2 reading (Anstrom, 1999; Short & Fitzsimmons, 2007). 1. Do a book walk to build background knowledge.
Reading Aloud Read stories that have similar characters or story lines to connect to BK and develop vocabulary.
Reading Aloud to children Allow students to use pictures when reading. Read with enthusiasm and expression and use different voices for different characters!
Reading Aloud Invite students to read repetitive phrasing like, He huffed and puffed until the house fell down .
Reading Aloud Invite students to read repetitive phrasing like, El lobo sopl y sopl y la casa se cay .
Reading Strategies 5. Talk about the book and ask questions to engage kids in thinking
Reading Aloud Ask children to explain what is happening in the pictures .If younger, you may point to pictures as you read the words.
Reading Aloud Stop to ask kids questions about the story like, What do you think will happen next? What will the character do? How do you think they feel? It promotes language and thinking skills.
