INTUBATION: 1. Correctly assesses airway anatomy for ease of intubation i. ii. Dentition iii. C-Spine ROM iv. Mallampati score v. Mouth opening Thyromental distance 2. Correctly chooses and checks equipment i. ii. Oral airway iii. Rescue LMA iv. ETT v. Mask Laryngoscope direct, video
3. Correctly positions patient i. ii. Neck flexion iii. Atlanto-axial extension iv. Ramping, shoulder roll, doughnut as appropriate v. Tragus in line with sternal angle Ergonomically positioned for laryngoscopist 4. Correctly performs laryngoscopy i. ii. Achieve sniffing position iii. Correctly inserts laryngoscope, engaging thyroepiglottic ligament iv. Compresses sublingual tissues, avoiding levering action v. Checks efficacy of bag mask ventilation Recognizes view of larynx
5. Correctly intubates i. ii. Successfully passes endotracheal tube through vocal cords iii. Stops in the trachea, cuff inflated iv. Assesses placement CO2, chest rise, misting, auscultation v. Identifies glottic inlet, vocal cords Keeps work area clean (clean & dirty areas)
