  1. VIRTUAL ORIENTATION

  2. Orientation Norms Please make sure that your microphone is muted. If you choose to show your video (background) please be mindful that others can see you. If you have a question that is for the good of the group (not something that only applies to your child) you are welcome to type it in the comment section. We will address questions at the very end.

  3. Arrival Students cannot be dropped off before 8:45 unless they are in SOAR We will allow students to enter the building at 9:10 students will either enter at the front of the school or the bus loop. Walkers, Bikers, and Car riders will enter through the front of the school this year due to Covid-19 temperature checks. All LMS staff and students will have their temperature checked upon entering the building. Bus riders will remain on their bus until we release students off of the bus to enter campus. Once students are off the bus they will have their temperature taken in the bus loop. We will not be doing morning holding areas. Once students arrive on campus they can get breakfast and/or report directly to first period.

  4. Dismissal We will begin dismissal at 4:08. We will dismiss by grade level Car riders, Bikers, and Walkers will exit through the front of the school. Car riders can be picked up from the front of the school (THIS IS A NEW!!!!) Please do not park across the street and ask your student to cross ABESS Park. Let s be safe and come through the drive-way. Bus Riders will need to check the signage in the bus loop to see if their bus is on campus. If a bus is not on campus the student will need to report to the cafeteria and wait to be called. Students who are participating in SOAR and The After School Learning Program will also report to the cafeteria.

  5. Food Services All LMS students are eligible to receive breakfast and lunch at NO COST Students are able to bring their own lunch if they choose to do so. Everyone will eat lunch in the cafeteria unless they have a honor roll pass to eat on the patio (we will pass these out 2ndweek of school). This year we are offering grab-n-go breakfast. If your student is interested in eating breakfast they will need to go through the line, grab a bag breakfast, and eat it in class. Breakfast will be served and eaten from 9:10-9:30. Lunch will be grab and go. Students will eat in the cafeteria. We will space students out as much as possible. If your student is participating in Duval Homeroom (Full-Time) you will be able to come to Landmark and pick-up lunch for your child. We will post the pick-up time once we receive information from Chartwells. If your student is doing the Hybrid model (face-to-face) your student will be able to receive breakfast and lunch for the day(s) that they stay home and work virtually. Students will get the bagged food during dismissal the day before their home learning. They will need to go through the cafeteria line to pick the bag up before they go home (during dismissal). 8thgraders who are doing the Hybrid model will get their lunch on Friday afternoon during dismissal since their home learning day is scheduled for Monday. Remember students will only get food if they choose to go through the line.

  7. Before School Program SOAR We are still offering before school care. The hours are 7:00 am-9:10am. If you have questions you can contact Coach Crowley via email (crowleym@duvalschools.org) Duval Homeroom students will be able to apply when they return to campus.

  9. General Items We do not use lockers at Landmark so students will need a book-bag Book-bags can be any color We do not wear uniforms here but students are expected to follow the dress code. Students are expected to wear ID s at all times Parents please make sure that you have a Focus account set-up so that you can monitor grades throughout the school year. Please make sure your contact information is correct. If you do not receive our weekly phone blast or emails your contact information is not on file. Please connect with us on our Facebook page for the most up-to-date information.

  10. School Supply List The LMS supply list is located on our school website www.duvalschools.org/landmark. If your student is doing Duval Homeroom FULL TIME use your best judgement on what you need to purchase. The goal is that we will all return to school at some point. Please make sure that your student has multiple masks. Students should have a clean mask for each new school day. Zip lock bag for soiled mask. You might consider purchasing a reusable water bottle for your student since the water fountains will not be available for use. Please make sure that we can see through the container (no opaque water containers). Please consider purchasing your student their own hand sanitizer that they can store in their own bag. You might consider purchasing some blue light glasses to reduce head and eye stress due to extensive screen time

  11. Learning Models Hybrid Model (Face-to- Face) 6thgrade Face-to-Face 4 Days 7th/8thgrade 3 Days a Week Students will work virtually from home on the days that they do not come to school via Teams. Students are expected to be logged in for regular class sessions 9:30-4:15 (attendance will be taken each class period) The same teachers they see face-to- face will be providing virtual learning on the days that they are home. Students are expected to have their own computers for home learning. Duval Homeroom Full Time These students will not physically come to school. These students will work virtually on Teams for each class period Students are expected to be logged in for regular class sessions 9:30-4:15 The DH teachers are Landmark teachers Attendance will be taken each class period (daily) Students are expected to have their own computers for home learning. ESE and Gifted Students will still receive accommodations and support.

  12. Instruction Clarification Students in the hybrid model and DH will be expected to use teams for home learning instruction. We will post directions and tips before school starts. Students will be expected to log-in for each class period at the scheduled class time. We will post the bell schedule on our website. Teachers are expected to provide live instruction each class period of virtual learning. Attendance will be taken daily each class period. If you are not present during the class time you will be considered absent. We will have common expectations for teams. Teachers will share this information with you during the first few days of class. Once everyone returns back to campus we will adjust schedules

  13. Things to Consider (HYBRID MODEL) The first day of school is Thursday August 20th. The only students who will physically come to school are 6thand 7thgraders. 8thgraders should log-on to Teams and be prepared to learn virtually. On the second day of school, Friday August 21st, the only students who will physically come to school are 6thand 8thgraders. 7thgraders should log-on to Teams and be prepared to learn virtually. If your student erroneously comes to school on the wrong day we will be calling you to pick them up.

  14. SLA/PLA ESE Students If your ESE student is in our SLA/PLA program (on the wing) your student will be attending school 5 days a week unless you have opted for Duval Homeroom. The SLA/PLA teachers are Ms. Langford, Ms. Noles, Ms. Frias, Ms. Wallace, Ms. Shanteau, and Ms. Tanner (ESE LEAD). SLA/PLA students will enter through their own hallway. These students will also have their temp taken. We will offer one section of SLA Duval Homeroom. We are still working out the details but if you have questions please email Ms. Tanner tannerm1@duvalschools.org or Mr. Johnson johnsonn1@duvalschools.org.

  15. Class Schedules All students will have 7 classes regardless of if they are on the Hybrid model or Duval Homeroom. All students are required to take 4 core classes (Math, Science, Language Arts, and Social Studies) All students are required to take P.E./Health (these are semester courses) Students with low Math FSA (2018-2019) and iReady scores could be placed in intensive math Students with low Reading FSA scores (2018-2019) will be tested and placed in intensive reading. If your student was in reading last year they will be rested to determine placement. If we do not have scores for your student they will be tested to determine placement.

  17. Elective Options Duval Homeroom students do not need to request electives. We have selected electives for you based on availability. We are not offering Art, Band, and Chorus in Duval Homeroom. Once we return to campus we will make adjustments to schedules.

  18. Things you need to know about your schedule We had to re-do most of the schedules in the building to accommodate the Hyrbid model and DH. If you were accepted into the Honors Academy and you do not get HA teachers during DH don t worry. We had to balance numbers and teachers the best way we could. Once you come back to campus you will placed with your Honors teacher. We were not able to offer all of our electives to DH students. The elective you have on your schedule is the elective you will have. We are not making changes to DH schedules. All DH students have been assigned Health.

  19. Physical Education Students will NOT be dressing out for P.E. until further notice. We are not using the lockers during this time. Students will be able to store their book bags in a secure room. We will not be using the locker room during this time so if students need to refresh they will need to use the restroom. Students will still go outside and participate in P.E. class objectives. Face masks are required during P.E. (face shields will be permitted as an alternative to the mask during outside P.E. activities but students will be responsible for bringing their own. Landmark will not be providing face shields to students). We are highly recommending that you send your student with a refresh bag. A refresh bag might include baby wipes (in case students need to wipe the sweat from their face and neck), deodorant, body spray, an extra mask (in case your mask gets sweaty), zip-lock bag to put the soiled mask in, and hand sanitizer.

  20. Technology We are currently operating on a very limited supply of laptops. These laptops will only be used for baseline testing until we get more. Students who received a DCPS laptop during the spring will be expected to bring the laptop everyday. Students are welcome to bring their own device to use in class. We are not responsible for these items so please take care of your own personal items. We do not have any laptops or wifi-cards to give out to students for home use at this time. The district plans to purchase new laptops for all secondary students within the next few weeks. The goal is to be one-to-one.

  21. Covid-19 and Safety Masks are mandatory for all students and staff* (we are waiting on the code of conduct to be revised regarding consequences) All staff and students will have their temperature taken Masks are required while sitting at a desk with a shield Students with a high temp (over 100) will be sent to the isolation room until they can be picked up by a parent (must be picked up within 1 hour) Mask are NOT required while eating food Desks shield are being installed this weekend If a student becomes ill during the day we will refer them to the school nurse and allow them to call home. The entire school will be sprayed with a special chemical solution We will modify hallway transitions to reduce the number of students in the hallway during class change. More custodians will be on site during the school day to disinfect high touch surfaces Classrooms will be disinfected each day Students will be staggered during transitions in the hallways

  22. Covid-19 Safety We will do our best to spread students out at lunch. A/B honor roll students will be able to eat outside in the patio area if they choose to (they must have a pass). Everyone other restroom stall/urinal and sink have been taped off to encourage social distancing. Restrooms will be open during class change as usual. Students who are waiting for late buses in the cafeteria will need to spread out and wear a mask. Students who test positive will transition to DH. We will follow DCPS and CDC guidelines regarding protocols for staff and students who test positive for Covid-19. The water fountains have been taped off and are not open for use.

  23. Additional Information If you did not take or retake your ID picture this summer we will use what is in Focus. We will print IDs for the Hybrid students and pass them out the 2ndweek of school. DH students can expect their printed ID once they return to the building. At this moment we do not have laptops or internet cards to issue out to students. If you received a DCPS laptop during the spring semester last year you are expected to bring that laptop with you everyday so that you can use it in class. We will issue consumable (workbooks) to Hybrid students during the second week of school. All core class books are online and available to all students, however, if your DH student prefers a book they can request a consumable (workbook) from their teacher. Keep in mind that we will only issue a book once so if you lose the book during DH time and you won t have one to use in class once we return you will need to purchase another book.

  24. Additional Information Early student check-out procedures have changed a little. Parents will still be required to enter the building and show ID. Parents must wear a mask while inside of the building. We will ask you to wait in your car for your student. No student check-out after 3:45 p.m.

  25. Additional Information We have changed the hallway assignments. Students will used their assigned hallway to transition to electives and lunch. All 6th grade core classes are on the yellow hallway (500 hallway) All 7th grade core classes are on the green hallway (400 hallway) All 8th grade core classes are on the blue hallway (200 hallway) Parent-Teacher conferences will be held virtually until further notice via Teams No updates on athletics at the moment. Once we get information we will share information. We are going to try and do a dry run on teams before the first day of school. We notify you if we are able to make it happen. We do plan on posting directions to get you started. We are still waiting on more information regarding switching between hybrid and Duval Homeroom once school starts. At the moment we are not sure what your options are. Schedules have been blocked by the district while we work on them. We plan to be finished scheduling this weekend and we anticipate that the district will unblock your view next week. The district has blocked all students so don t stress just wait a little longer.

  26. First and Second Day of School Hybrid students will be given a schedule and a map during 1stperiod. On Thursday Aug 20thand Friday Aug 21st. We will post student rosters and 1stperiod room locations at the front of the school and in the bus area so that students will know where to go. We will have adults all over campus to make sure that everyone gets to their first period class so they can receive their schedule and map. If students would like grab and go breakfast they can get that from the cafeteria and then report to class.
