In preparation for the Total Solar Eclipse event on April 8, 2024, VFR arrival procedures have been outlined including PPR requirements, assigned arrival windows, entry into Class D airspace, monitoring ADSB for traffic, and altitude/speed assignments for different aircraft types. It is crucial to adhere to these guidelines for safe and efficient traffic flow during the event.

  1. VFR Arrival Procedures April 8, 2024 Total Solar Eclipse 1

  2. PPRs for inbound traffic will be in affect on April 8, from 0800- 1445 local (1200-1845 Zulu). If landing prior to this time you must still have a PPR for landing and departure purposes. Departures WILL NOT be allowed during these arrival times. 2

  3. You will be assigned a 15 minute arrival window 5 aircraft will be arriving during every 15 minute arrival window This time must be met to ensure the safe and expeditious flow of traffic. 3

  4. If you reserved a PPR as a VFR inbound to BMG, you must enter the Class Delta VFR IFR aircraft have their own PPR slot times, and we will not be able to accommodate any additional IFR traffic without an IFR PPR. If you are IFR qualified, it is encouraged to complete the trip under an IFR flight plan. 4

  5. Entry into BMG Class D Airspace must be either from the EAST (Belmont antenna) or WEST (RAYCR) of BMG over predetermined fixes. This will allow for easier entry into the downwind and help sequence with the IFR aircraft coming straight into the airport. 5

  6. Look out the window. There will be traffic everywhere. Watch your ADSB. If you see someone else heading to BMG that you can follow, then follow them. Remember, not all aircraft will be visible through ADSB. We suggest monitoring the tower frequency within 20 NM of the airport to get an idea of what is happening at or near the airport. Do NOT Contact tower until over the fix 6

  7. Inbound Altitude and Speed assignments will be based off the following criteria: High performance aircraft (200HP+): Jets or single engine aircraft 150 knots or greater, and all twins Low Performance aircraft (200HP or less): all Single engine aircraft 140 knots or less High verses Low Performance determination 7

  8. High Performance (200HP+) Entry Procedures At 15 DME EAST or WEST of the airport be at an altitude of 3.000 MSL or Above 3000 to 3500 MSL preferred to stay away from IFR inbounds at 4000 MSL Maintain 3000 MSL until entering the Class Delta Upon entering the Class Delta descend to 2300 MSL at a speed of 150 Knots 8

  9. Low Performance (200HP or less) Entry Procedures At 15 DME EAST or WEST of the airport be at an altitude of 2500 MSL or below Prior to entering the Class Delta be level at 1800 MSL (pattern altitude) with a best forward speed. 9

  10. Contact BMG Tower on 120.775 over a point 15 nm WEST of Bloomington fix (RAYCR), or over a point 15nm EAST of Bloomington over the town of Belmont the depicted antenna Do not call any earlier From the East please be aware of the RACER MOA. Also not to be confused with the fix to the west (RAYCR) 10

  11. On initial contact with the tower give them the following information: Call Sign Type Position over either Farmers (West) or the Belmont antenna (East) Altitude Have the numbers (ASOS Freq. 134.525) 11

  12. The following slides will inform you of: Reporting points from the east or west Pattern entry into runway 17 and runway 35. High performance altitudes and speeds Low performance altitude and speeds Avoid VFR straight in pattern entry. IFR aircraft will be vectored straight in. 12 .

  13. Report over west point between Freedom and Worthington Low Performance: Aim for 1 NM mid field right downwind High Performance: Aim for 2 NM mid field right downwind Enter right downwind for runway 17 Entry from the south is acceptable report 15 nm inbound for right downwind Avoid VFR straight in approaches to active runway Report Point Arrival from WEST runway 17 13

  14. Report over Belmont antenna Low Performance: Aim for 1 NM mid field downwind RY17 High Performance: Aim for 2 NM mid field downwind RY 17 Enter left downwind for runway 17 Entry from the south is acceptable report 15 nm inbound for left downwind Avoid VFR straight in approaches to active runway Report Point Arrival from EAST runway 17 14

  15. Report over west point between Freedom and Worthington Low Performance: Aim for 1 NM mid field downwind RY35 High Performance: Aim for 2 NM mid field downwind RY 35 Enter left downwind runway 35 Entry from the north is acceptable report 15 nm inbound for left downwind Avoid VFR straight in approaches to active runway Report Point Arrival from WEST runway 35 15

  16. Contact tower over Belmont antenna Low Performance: Aim for 1 NM mid field downwind RY35 High Performance: Aim for 2 NM mid field downwind RY35 Enter right downwind runway 35 Avoid VFR straight in approaches to active runway Report Point Arrival from EAST runway 35 16

  17. Read back all ATC instructions Expect a downwind entry into the airport Ensure you receive a landing clearance. 17

  18. Upon landing do the following: Unless the tower gives you different instructions, turn off at the first available taxiway you can safely make, in the direction of the main ramp, and exit the runway. Contact ground on 121.9 immediately Someone will most likely be landing right behind you. So, when Ground Control gives you taxi instruction don t hesitate Get yourself familiar with the airport layout, and the location of the south ramp prior to arriving 18

  19. 19

  20. On initial contact with Ground Control give them the following information (Nothing more or less): Call sign Position 20

  21. Ground Control will give you taxi instructions to the parking location Remain on the ground control frequency until you get on the ramp or directed by ATC 21

  22. When directed by ATC or upon entering the parking location, if needed you can contact the FBO on 122.95 and give them the following information: Call sign If you are requesting fuel 22

  23. Arrival Parking: KBMG Different parking locations highlighted. Main Ramp Bravo Parking 23

  24. Remember the ramps are uncontrolled so be careful Marshaller s will assist you with parking Review your outbound taxi procedures prior to moving on the ramp for departure. 24

  26. The following slides have a non mandatory High Performance and Low Performance VFR arrival checklist for your convenience 26

  27. High Performance VFR Arrival Checklist Monitor tower BMG tower on 120.775 20 nm out Enter only from the East or West of BMG Contact BMG tower on 120.775 when you are at reporting points (Callsign, position, altitude, and ASOS) 15nm East or West of airport be at or above 3,000 MSL (3000-3500 MSL preferred) Enter Class Delta at 3,000 MSL and 150 Knots Upon entering Class Delta descend to 2100 MSL and maintain 150 Knots Maintain 2100 MSL and 150 Knots until cleared to land or advised by ATC 27

  28. High Performance VFR Arrival Checklist Upon landing turn off at the first available intersection, in the East direction you can safely make unless otherwise directed Contact Ground Control on 121.9 Immediately upon exiting runway unless otherwise directed by ATC (callsign, position) If needed contact the ramp on 122.95 when you get to the parking location or instructed by ATC (Callsign, type and request) Don t say anything about fuel if you don t want fuel 28

  29. Low Performance VFR Arrival Checklist Monitor BMG tower on 120.775 20 nm out Entry only from East or West of BMG Contact BMG tower on 120.775 when you are at reporting points from airport (Callsign, position, altitude, and ASOS) At 15 nm East or West of airport be at 2,500 MSL or below Enter Class Delta at 1,600 MSL and best forward speed if able Maintain 1,800 MSL and best forward speed until cleared to land or advised by ATC 29
