What Else Could We do? (Open Ended) Nothing keep up the great wor Coach pete is great! maybe include some kind of academic incentive. Kids with As get some kind of tourney discount, etc. Coaches, notably Magnus, Eric, and John from Squirt 3 have been amazing. 1.)One week of hockey camp on and off ice prior to the season, instead of weekly sessions. 2.) implementing a dry land training regimen before skills or on a day of choice. 3.) Try Outs - There is room for improvement. Make adjustments according to the number of players in the particular age group. Example: Peewee try outs sucked last year. 4.) Higher quality hockey socks. If money allows. 5.) Parent drink night . Raffles , Comedians , Baskets ect... 6.) Second parent drink night that improves on the first one. Just more eddie hill Schedule out sooner would help with planning other sports/ activities Ice time is huge in keeping kids in the organization but 4-5 teams on the ice for skills is not effective. Kids (especially the younger ones) would benefit more from an extra "team" practice with coaches instructed to run a team level appropriate skills practice every other week rather than putting 60 kids on the ice for 45-50 min every week. Don't lie to the players Full ice for mite 1s Just more eddie hill
What Else Could We do? (Open Ended) To keep great coaches offer them incentive. Tuition break or something..... Fall call up process needs to be better organized. If you call the same player up almost every week, then to have him remain on the team he was initially put on doesn't make much sense. why are teams allowed to do separate fundraising (squirt 1's) are we an organization or a collection of teams. when asked certain board members were less than forthcoming. I was extremely disappointed with the tryout/call up process. You describe it as a transparent evaluation but from what I see it s far from that. You claim that it s half the independent party and half coaches input regarding the placement. If you want to be truly transparent please change that to 1/3 independent party, 1/3 coaches and 1/3 if you re a member of the board or good friends with one or more members of the board. It took a few years but I finally see why people leave GHPYH for other youth hockey organizations. 9 p.m. practices times are okay if its 1X per week, but the 2X per week seriously impacts school. Occasionally, maybe 1 practice a month have coaches switch within the division. It will give kids access to other coaching practices. I have found through out the years that there have been players put on the wrong team mostly on a level that is too high for the player and that skater remains on the team for the whole season hurting that players development I think it would be a good thing If you had a board member dedicated to each division(without there child being in that division) who could watch some games speak with the coaching staff and have a conversation with the parents and ask them to move the player to the team that would help on the development of that player. Change the colors! Tryouts should not be based on just speed and ability to shoot on the net. My son a 6th year skater and played at tryouts as his last 5 years of coaching showed him- pass and play as a team. For this he was penalized or not recognized and placed at the lowest level. He was then one of the higher skaters who was bored at practices as several skaters had to be taught basic skills like stopping. He has no motivation to play because he had a team that did not know how to play as a team, due to lack of experience with some, and no passing with others. At peewee level, passing should be a pretty standard part of playing, not puck hogging, for those that know how to play. We are half way through the season and it remains the same. Having a team of half that can play and half that needed to learn was not fair to many of the kids. They were bored or often felt they had to cover everywhere. Maybe those kids that could skate well should Have been pulled up - a different one each week to play with a skill level of their playing or at least motivate and challenge them. My son played last year with kids that are this year on the 2&3's.
What Else Could We do? (Open Ended) Longer practice times, 50 minutes is tough. Less skating and more skill and team work at practice Get rid of 9 pm practices. Telling the coaches and parents to watch their children more in the lobby during practices. It is out of control loud and someone is going to get hurt. Many of the children are siblings of others an are waiting for practice to be over for their sibling. Many are also children of coaches an they don't step in to control their own children. Improve the call up progress so kids move up or down at the beginning of the season re try out after summer for kid got better . coach talk about what player should be call up not their parants . should limt the amount of kid from other promgram one that have been there should be take frist . coach kids that are not on team or play at the level should not be at pratices on ice because his dad is take away for team . less fooling around in locker room and coach in there .before the first game have a re tryout to see if any player got better over summer and do away with coach skill and just add another pratice After spending 2 yrs w the predators, it's good to be back w HP thunder. Good value, decent schedule, and my son likes his team and coach. The online calendar is great for keeping track of games and practices. Facilities and maintainence at veterans rink More transparency in the tryouts and placements parents should be able to get the results. When choosing coaches you need to choose best, most experienced person for the position. . It is unfair to the children to have a coach who does not have experience or who has never played when there are parents who have applied that have played and still play. I appreciate their time but it is not fair to the kids esp as they prepare to enter high school. Have an adult monitor the locker rooms! Hold players accountable for their actions! More attention to the assigned locker rooms During tryouts/call-ups, coaches should be held to the policies in place by the organization and if they are calling up a child, it should be done quietly with the current coach and parent, not in a lobby I front of other players before the current coach knows about it.
What Else Could We do? (Open Ended) the pee wee program was a disaster, we were very disappointed how things exploded to such a mess! Realize that Youth hockey isn't about winning. It's about helping shape their lives in a positive manner -Camaraderie -Team Work -Fair Play -Work Ethic -Friends for Life I think rather than ask for a fundraiser on top of the fees - the money needed should be part of the tuition. If we could rotate the practices so the same team doesn't always have the late 9pm practice. Outline upcoming season in more details before commitment what kids will be playing if it will be half or full ice for the upcoming mite season The Bantam practices need to either be scheduled earlier than 9pm or strictly on the weekends when the kids do not have school the next day
