  5. Division 1 Long Crendon 2 v 3 Middleton Cheney Saturday, 04 September 2010 LC: Chris Walker, Matt Hopwood MC: Scott Finch, Elliot Chezis, Alan Buckingham, Middleton Cheney's preparation for the big kick off to the new season was hampered as one of the cars carrying their manager and three players to the game broke down on route. However, it was Long Crendon who started the game in second gear as they struggled to get to grips with Division One football. Scott finch kick-started the 2010/11 campaign for Cheney with a scruffy goal from a Rory Delap type throw in that Crendon really should have dealt better with. Crendon rallied after this early set back and were soon on level terms after a barnstorming run from midfielder Chris Walker resulted in a free kick 20 yards from goal. Chris dusted himself down and tucked away the free kick into the bottom left hand corner of the net. Somewhat slightly against the run of play Crendon soon found themselves behind once again moments before half time. Cheney forward Elliot Chezis latched onto a hopeful ball forward, outstripped the Crendon centre back and rifled the ball into the left hand corner. Chezis's effort gave Greig Horton in the Crendon goal no chance as Cheney went in 2-1 up at the break. Continued

  6. The second half started at a frantic pace with chances going begging for both sides. Although, it wasn't until midway through the second half when Cheney's Alan Buckingham extended their advantage with a controversial third goal that looked suspiciously offside. However, Crendon displayed the sort of fighting spirit that they will need in abundance this season as they fought back with a well taken goal from Matt Hopwood 18 yards out. With seconds remaining Crendon forward Chris Scott found himself unmarked six yards out but his header was cleared off the Cheney line, and with it went Crendon's hopes of starting the new season undefeated.

  8. Division 1 Middleton Cheney 0 Oxford Irish 2 Saturday, 11 September 2010 Oxford Irish: Andrew McMahon, Dwaine Jackson Middleton started the game brightly and within the first 10 minutes a Tristan Salt cross was headed just over the visitor s bar by Chris Heritage and then Aron Buckingham blasted over from 10 yards. Oxford Irish started to get in to the game after this and took control of the midfield and mid-way through the half, a long throw caused chaos in the Cheney area, and while it was initially cleared, Andrew McMahon fired it back in to the net to make it 1-0 to the visitors. The rest of the half was played out with Irish very much on top, until just before the break when Cheney created a chance against the run of play, with Heritage finishing off a neat passage of play with a shot which crashed on to the crossbar. Middleton found themselves 2-0 down 5 minutes in to the second half after Irish striker Dwaine Jackson produced some great footwork to beat two defenders in the area before shooting the ball low in to the Cheney net. Cheney substitute Steve Twynham went close to getting a goal back shortly after coming on after 65 minutes, but that was the home side s last chance to get back in to the game and Oxford Irish went back down the M40 as worthy winners of a game that produced 5 bookings but was played in a good spirit.

Northway Continued to press and had a number of close chances before Jake Carter scored from the penalty spot making it 2-0 at the break. Middleton Cheney started the second half much better and had a couple of chances but Northways defence held strong throughout. Lee Spencer Keyes then rounded up the result to make the score 3-0.

  15. Division 1 Middleton Cheney 1 v 1 North Oxford Saturday, 23 October 2010 MC: Aaron Buckingham NO: John Ramsey Cheney started the game slowly, but got in to their stride after the first 10 minutes, creating a number of good chances with Aaron Buckingham and Paul Connelly both looking dangerous as they pushed forward down the flanks. The home side deservedly took the lead midway through the first half, with Buckingham finishing off another good move and they continued to dominate the game up until half time but could only go in to the break 1-0 up. The second half started the same with Cheney dominating much of the play, but they continued to miss chance after chance to increase the lead, with North Oxford limited to one goal scoring opportunity which produced a fantastic save from Middleton keeper Tim Williams. Cheney had two good penalty shouts turned down mid way through the half but looked to have done enough to secure all 3 points until North Oxford striker John Ramsey popped up in the box in the closing minutes to drive the ball past Williams to nick a point for the visitors.

Division 1 Middleton Cheney 1 v 4 Northway Saturday, 06 November 2010 MIDDLETON CHENEY 1 v 4 NORTHWAY MiddCheney: Chris Heritage Northway: Lewis Welby Liam Hatt, Lee Spencer-Keyes (2) Cheney came out second best against high-flying Northway despite being well in the game until the last half an hour. The visitors took the lead mid-way through the first half but Cheney were back on level terms before the break, courtesy of a rare headed goal from Chris Heritage. Northway went ahead again early in the second half, but while Middleton had several good chances to equalise, they failed to convert and finally lost out to a 4-1 scoreline as they conceded a penalty and a well struck shot from 20 yards in the closing 20 minutes.

  22. Division 1 Middleton Cheney 3 v 2 Long Crendon Saturday, 20 November 2010 MC: Scott Finch (2) Ben Nelder LC: Ryan Scott, Matt Hopwood Cheney came out on top for the second week running and climbed in to the top half of the table for the first time this season. Scott Finch put Middleton ahead mid-way through the first half and they should have put themselves in a much more commanding position by half time, missing several good chances to increase their lead. They paid for this as the second half got underway when Ryan Scott equalized after a tremendous solo run from the half way line resulted in him firing the ball past home keeper Tim Williams. The visitors kept up the pressure for the next ten minutes but were unable to get their noses in front and let Cheney back in to the game with two goals in quick succession through substitute Ben Nelder and Finch grabbing his second. Crendon grabbed a late consolation but were unable to bring the scores level, leaving Cheney to collect the three points.

Broughton took the lead through Karl Tucker only for Middleton to reply through Andrew Boyles. Chris Tillcock made it 2-1 for Broughton with a 25 yard rocket. The game turning point was after 70 minutes when the referee awarded a penalty for Middleton, Scott Finch finished well 2-2. Perry Hawkins scored the winner after breaking offside trap and lobbing keeper well, 3- 2 Middleton.

  26. Division 1 Watlington 1 Middleton Cheney 1 Saturday, 11 December 2010 Watlington: Gareth Bridges M Cheney: Perry Hawkins On a cold Saturday afternoon a battle waged on at Watlington Town's pitch. Watlington and Middleton Cheney were playing for all 3 points in what would proved to be a highly contested game. Watlington started the more promising with a brace of early chances that tested Tim Williams in the Middleton Cheney goal. Middleton Cheney started to show some promise but again found themselves on the backfoot as Watlington had even more chances with the best chance coming from David Heycock who found himself facing just the keeper but again an excellent save from Tim Williams made sure Watlington didn't find the net. As the First Half was drawing to an end both Teams found themselves a goal. Watlington scored first where some good running and movement from Gareth Bridges provided the Centre Half his first goal for Watlington. Middleton Cheney would not give up that easy and so pressed Watlington very well where a defence splitting pass found an on rushing Perry Hawkins who out paced both Centre Halfs and left him with a simple job of scoring which he dropped the shoulder to leave Watlington's Goalkeeper diving early but to no prevail as the ball was then tapped in. Both Teams headed into the break with a goal a piece. Continued

  27. The second began the same as Watlington again had many more clear chances to score. Tim Williams was again saving another one on one chance. Although attention turned to the other end of the pitch as James Conn found himself facing a penalty to Middleton Cheney as some sloppy defending from Watlington was left for punishment. Middelton Cheney watched their penalty hit the upright of the goal and were left scrambling on the rebound but only for James Conn to complete a brace of saves to stop the opposition. The game ended a draw with both Teams gathering a valuable point to aid them in the table. Well done to both Teams and a special well done to both Goal Keepers who both deserved the Man of the Match award for their breath-taking performances.

  29. Ben Turner Cup Round 1 Middleton Cheney 2 v 1 Eynsham Saturday, 08 January 2011 Mid Cheney: Tristan Salt, Chris Heritage Eynsham: Enrique Guillen Cheney started the game well and created chances early on with Stuart White heading against the bar from a corner after 10 minutes. Striker Chris Heritage gave the home side the lead mid way through the half, finishing off a good move that started way back with keeper Tim Williams. Middleton extended their lead early in the second half through Tristan Salt and looked to be heading for a comfortable win, but Eynsham had other ideas and they pulled a goal back through Guillen with 15 minutes to go. In the closing period of the game they pushed Cheney back in their own penalty area as they looked for the equalizer to take the game in to extra time, but they were denied by in-form keeper Williams who made a number of fine saves to keep the visitors out and give Middleton the win.

  30. January 15th 2011 Oxon Senior League Div I - Home Middleton Cheney 0 v 7 Slade Farm C. Heritage R. Mason T. Williams K. Coles T. Salt P. Carter S.Ciballi A. Buckingham Sc. Finch A. Boyles L. Terry J. Brooker P. Hawkins G. Fuller Ref L/man Goal scorers

  31. Division 1 Middleton Cheney 0 v 7 Slade Farm Saturday, 15 January 2011 Slade: Scorers NOT NAMED Cheney started the game badly, conceding a goal in only the 2nd minute and were on the back foot for most of the rest of the first half, going in 4-0 down at half time as the visitors dominated the play with some quick passing football which did not allow the home side to get in to the game. Middleton came out in the second half with a little more conviction and managed to create a couple of half chances but were unable to stamp their mark on the game and Slade completed the rout by firing in a further three more goals before the final whistle blew.

  32. January 22nd 2011 Oxon Senior League Div I - Home Middleton Cheney 2 v 4 Charlton C. Heritage R. Mason T. Williams K. Coles L. Finch T. Salt P. Carter S.Ciballi S. White A. Buckingham Sc. Finch L. Terry J. Brooker P. Hawkins Booked Ref L/man Goal scorers P. Hawkins 2 Sent Off

  33. Division 1 Middleton Cheney 2 v 4 Charlton Saturday, 22 January 2011 MC: P.Hawkins (2) Charlton: (Goalscorers names not available) Cheney started the game well, and played some quick passing football throughout the first half which did not allow the visitors to get in to the game, but despite dominating the first 45 minutes, the home side only went in to the break 1-0 up thanks to a goal from Perry Hawkins. Unfortunately, Cheney were unable to hit the same rhythm in the second half and allowed the hard working visitors back in to the game, and although Hawkins was able to grab a second goal, it proved to be only consolation as Charlton hammered four in to the net before the final whistle.

  34. February 5th 2011 Oxon Senior League Div I - Home Middleton Cheney 2 v 3 Kidlington OB C. Heritage R. Mason T. Williams K. Coles L. Finch T. Salt P. Carter S.Ciballi S. White A. Buckingham Sc. Finch A. Boyles L. Terry P. Hawkins St. Finch Ref L/man Booked Goal scorers T. Salt OG

  35. Division 1 Middleton Cheney 2 Kidlington OB 3 Saturday, 05 February 2011 MC: Tristan Salt< og KOBs? Kristian Thomas (2) Daniel Jones Middleton welcomed Kidlington to Astrop Road on a very windy day and it was the conditions that were to settle the outcome of the game. Cheney had the wind at their backs in the first half and made the most of it after the visitors had nearly taken the lead in the opening minutes. Kidlington keeper Wayne Foster then had to make three fine saves within the first ten minutes to keep his side in the game and to stake his claim for man of the match. Cheney went on to create several more good chances throughout the first half before finding themselves 1-0 down following a defensive error which gave Kidlington the lead against the run of play. The home side pulled themselves back level before the break when Tristan Salt lobbed the keeper with a curling effort from 25 yards. 1-1 at half time. The second half started with both teams playing good attacking football, despite the conditions, and it was Kidlington who took the lead again, another defensive mistake giving them a 2-1 lead. Cheney then had a spell where they played their best football of the game and it was a slick passing move involving Tristan Salt and Chris Heritage that created the equaliser, when Kidlington defender Bekele turned Heritage s cross in to his own net. Continued

  36. The game looked to be heading for a draw when the visitors were awarded a free kick 30 yards out, and an unstoppable shot was fired in to the box with the wind behind it and found its way in to the net off the post, giving Cheney keeper Tim Williams no chance to keep it out, and securing the three points for Kidlington. The game was played in good spirit by both teams and both managers agreed that referee Mark Strong contributed to this by having an excellent game in the middle.

  40. Division 1 Middleton Cheney 4 v 2 Oakley Saturday, 19 February 2011 MC: Scott Finch (2), Perry Hawkins, Steve Twynham Oakley: John Armstrong, Markie Barrett Cheney started the game sharply and produced some quick flowing football in the early stages which the visitors struggled to cope with. Cheney made the most of this early pressure when top-scorer Perry Hawkins found the net to give the home side an early lead. They continued to press but could not find an opening to double their tally and paid the price with 20 minutes of the half remaining as Oakley equalized and then proceeded to dominate the rest of the half without being able to find the net again. The second half started with the in-form Hawkins making way for substitute Steve Twynham, stepping up from the reserves, who proceeded to cause problems for the visiting defenders with his pace from the off. Cheney soon found the net for the second time with a headed goal from Scott Finch, who soon doubled his tally to make it 3-1 and put Middleton firmly in command of the game. Oakley reduced the arrears with a deflected goal mid way through the half but Twynham put the result beyond doubt when he left the Oakley defence for dead with his pace, and fired a shot past keeper Andy Durndall, giving him no chance and sealing the result to finish off a good all round performance.

  41. March 5th 2011 Oxon Senior League Div I - Home Middleton Cheney 1 v 3 Yarnton C. Heritage R. Mason K. Coles L. Finch P. Carter S. Ciballi Sc. Finch N. Wright L. Terry S. Twynham M. Ramsdale C. Reynolds G. Fuller P. Hawkins Ref L/man Booked Goal scorers Sc. Finch Sent Off

The second half was completely different, with Cheney coming out looking a completely different side, taking control of the early exchanges and making the visiting defence work hard for the first time in the game. Scott Finch pulled a goal back for Cheney, hit the post with a good header soon after and then hit the woodwork again from the penalty spot after Paul Carter had been brought down in the area. But despite their pressure, the home side could not find the back of the net and Yarnton held on for a deserved victory.

Chris Heritage gave the home side an early lead, slotting home a Paul Carter cross and this was soon doubled as Steve Twynham added a second. A Stuart White penalty then gave Cheney a 3-0 lead going in to the break. Twynham scored again soon after the re-start to put the game beyond doubt and secure the points for Cheney. The game was played in good spirits and refereed extremely well by David Burns.

  47. Ben Turner Cup Quarter Final Middleton Cheney 2 v 1 Chadlington Saturday, 26 March 2011 MC: Andrew Boyles (2) Chad: James O Brian Cheney hosted Chadlington for the second week running, this time with a Ben Turner semi-final place at stake. While Cheney ended the game with the result in their favour, this proved to be a much harder game than the previous weeks convincing victory. The visitors started the game much the better and had most of the early possession, but failed to make Cheney keeper Tim Williams work at all. Cheney crept back in to the game mid-way through the half and created a number of half chances, with Chris Heritage. Steve Twynham and Stuart White all going close but the game was nicely poised at 0-0 as the teams went in for the break. Chadlington gained the upper hand early in the second half when James O Brian took advantage of a poor clearance from a corner to volley home from 12 yards to put the visitors ahead. The lead was to be short lived as Cheney upped their game and were soon rewarded with an equalizer as Andrew Boyles broke down the left and hit a low shot past keeper Shepperd which hit the far post and settled in to the back of the net. The same player was soon to give the home side the lead when he got on the end of a Mike Ramsdale free kick to fire a bullet header in to the Chadlington net, giving Sheppherd no chance to save. Middleton had further chances to finish the game but could not find the net again, and the visitors battled through to the final whistle as they attempted to find the equalizer, but it is Cheney who move on to a semi final clash against Bletchingdon in 3 weeks time.
