A skillset required in the tourism industry includes analytical abilities, customer service, and compliance knowledge. Potential job roles include Travel Promoter, Sustainability Analyst Intern, among others, each contributing to the growth and sustainability of the industry.

  2. What is Tourism? Tourism is a social, cultural and economic phenomenon which entails the movement of people to countries or places outside their usual environment for personal or business purposes The Study of Tourism can be defined as a multidisciplinary subject that consist of the knowledge of the components of the tourism industry, tourism management and disciplines such as: Geography; Sociology; Environmental Sustainability; Anthropology; and, Laws

Analytical Skills & Global Awareness Management Abilities Critical Thinking & Creative Problem Solving Strong Customer Service & Ethics to Assist People Multitasking Skills Compliance Knowledge- knowledge of general safety laws and regulations in the tourism and hospitality sector

Travel Promoter/Tourism Marketing Assistant/Hospitality & Tourism Reporter Follow Japanese health and safety protocols and entrance requirements of the tourist destination/establishment Draft and edit articles on the organization s website(s) and social media platforms Upload and edit photographs to showcase the organization s services and/or products Keep in frequent communication with international clients to address their concerns and needs

Sustainability Analyst Intern Work alongside the organization to develop actionable strategies to help the organization achieve its sustainability goals Assist with marketing, sales and communication as the organization makes sustainable changes Research methods to produce less waste and minimize the overall environmental impact without decreasing customer engagement Develop reports communications materials to promote the organization s sustainability goals and achievements Conduct research on similar industries in Canada on their sustainability goals and action plans and present it to the team

Customer Service Representative (for foreign clients) Assist clients by answering and supporting their questions and concerns regarding the tourist destination and/or service Initiate recommendations to clients that best meet their needs Produce product or service reports by collecting and analyzing contact information of the clients Maintain and organize records of customer interactions, transactions, authorizations and complaints

Tour Information Officer Communicate between English-speaking customers and their tour guide Collect and evaluate customer satisfaction surveys and incorporate improvements into tour guide services if necessary Conduct market research on popular tourist services and destinations in Japan Handle ticket bookings and invoices Inform customers of last-minute and/or changes to their tour itineraries Produce relevant content on tour guide brochures, website(s) and social media platforms

Guest Services Agent Assist guests at hotels, tourist establishments, information centres and resorts with their needs from the time they arrive to the time they depart Maintain knowledge of tourist service policies and hotel polices (room rates, discounts, and special offerings and events) Manage guest accounts and transactions Compute bills, collect payments or authorize credit and make changes for guests

Public Relations Intern Create engaging content for media releases, social media platforms and newsletters Conduct research on marketing initiatives of competitors and incorporate into the organization s strategy and platforms Maintain relationships with clients while building relationships with new clients Schedule and coordinate speaking engagements, appearances, photoshoots, and other special events to promote to interested English-speaking parties Draft and edit press releases and other materials in English to further promote tourist establishment, services and products
