Course Information: Travel and Tourism This course will introduce you to the world of travel and tourism. The travel and tourism sector is growing. It is currently the UK s third largest employer, creating jobs in tourism for nearly 3 million people. Beyond Heritage: Travel and Tourism Key Topics Potential Career Pathways Life/Employability Skills There are three major areas of study: A travel and tourism BTEC qualification tells potential employers about your: Tourist Guide Airline Pilot Cabin Crew Museum Attendant Travel Agent Hotel Manager Conference Organiser Executive Chef Cruise Ship Steward Spa Manager Hotel Porter Tour Manager Housekeeper Visitor Attraction Manager Travel Agent Manager 1. Travel and tourism organisations and destinations here you will demonstrate an understanding of the travel and tourism industry and explore popular visitor destinations. Customer needs in this unit you will identify how different organisations meet differing customer needs and preferences. Influences on travel and tourism here you will investigate the changing influences upon the travel and tourism industry, examine the potential impacts of this and explore sustainable methods to manage this. Organisation You ll need to be able to prioritise work and meet strict deadlines while also achieving the course criteria. 2. Social Skills You must be prepared to work in a variety of settings and present your work to a group. You may have the opportunity to visit organisations off site and speak to visitors in school. Your ability to work with and at times manage others will be key. 3. Discipline You need to know and do what is expected of you. This ranges from organising yourself, being on time, to being responsible. Some jobs need particular discipline skills such as being able to persevere with the task and plans until you accomplish the task.
