Some elevator lobbies have immediate access to an exit stairwell, some do not.

In many buildings, tenants want/need security between the elevator lobby and tenant space, but the codes require a means of egress from the elevator lobby to a stairwell.

When there isn’t direct access from an elevator lobby to an exit stair, the two sets of model codes currently include different mandates for the doors leading out of the elevator lobby into the tenant space.
