BURY ST EDMUNDS RUFC BURY ST EDMUNDS RUFC 2022 2022- -23 Season summary 23 Season summary There has been significant successes on the pitch starting with our 1st XV Men achieving a record high finish for the second season running, Our Colts having a magnificent National cup run as well as winning the Eastern counties cup , Our 2nd XV winning the Suffolk CupOur Girls section growing from 7 to over 50, Our Senior Woman fielding a second team for the first time and all other sections of our club continuing to grow as we attract new players as well as previous players coming back to our club. This means our facilities have been used by more people than ever for not only Rugby but for other events which will continue to be essential if we are to be commercially sustainable. 2023 2023 - - AGM AGM
BURY ST EDMUNDS RUFC BURY ST EDMUNDS RUFC 2022 2022- -23 Season summary 23 Season summary cont cont .. .. As a subsequence of our success this has at time created challenges as we are at, or often beyond our capacity. For most parts we have delivered on our promise but as always as we stretch our capacity as well as try new things we haven't always, although I know its not for the lack of trying. It is exciting to see a number of new faces engaging with the club, whether it be staff, volunteers, members or sponsors it is important that whilst we learn from our past experiences, we also look ahead to ensure we improve for the next season, we future proof our club and meet the demands that we face. 2023 2023 - - AGM AGM
BURY ST EDMUNDS RUFC BURY ST EDMUNDS RUFC 2022 2022- -23 Season summary 23 Season summary cont cont .. .. There is no doubt we set ourselves high standards both on and off the pitch. These standards are often well beyond our means and having travelled to many other clubs during my time as chair for me to learn from others it is obvious, we are punching well above our weight. I am very conscious we can do this due to the hard work and support from our volunteers, staff and sponsors and for that we should all be very grateful. We are firstly a community rugby club, and It is sometimes worthwhile reminding our members of this. Whilst our Semi-professional team have for the first time become fully sustainable through sponsorship and match specific income the fact remains that our membership income alone does not support the running of this club. We rely on the same few people to deliver key events 2023 2023 - - AGM AGM
BURY ST EDMUNDS RUFC BURY ST EDMUNDS RUFC 2022 2022- -23 Season summary 23 Season summary cont cont .. .. Each year which are essential to help bridge the commercial gap. Not every section plays their part in doing this however every section has the same expectation regarding kit, pitch space etc etc. There is work still to be done. Everyone will be aware of the commercial challenges rugby club face with teams at the highest level going into administration this season, We are no different and therefore we need to work harder, be smarter and make decisions on the best commercial outcome, not just because that s what we have always done. 2023 2023 - - AGM AGM

We have had Bury players qualify for Suffolk, Norfolk, Eastern Counties, Essex and the RAF Senior Squad. We have retained our title of the highest competitive level of women s rugby in East Anglia. It is essential to recognise that as section we have grown, welcoming players that have moved to Bury and those that are new to the sport. We are sad to see our Head Coach, Sam leave and welcome our new caching team. I am delighted that this season management of the Women s and Girl s section are now separate. 2023 2023 - - AGM AGM

BURY ST EDMUNDS RUFC BURY ST EDMUNDS RUFC Thankyou Thankyou There are so many great people at this club that dedicate time, goods or money and without each and everyone of them then this club would truly not exist. There are far too many to mention individually but there are some key ones to mention: All of our sponsors. Each and everyone plays an important role in helping the club run and every penny is appreciated. A special thanks goes to Jules and Gordon from Logan Capital and Merrifield and the overwhelming support, Greene King for their continued support as well as St Eds Butchers, Chassis Cab, Steve Lumley, Culford, Ipswich School, Finborough, KDM, Bury Developments to name but a few. With over 100 Volunteer coaches/team managers, Our amazing Monday morning crew, the multitude of volunteers during events as well as many other voluntary roles it is hard to give each volunteer the thanks, they all deserve. It was great to see some new faces at this year's volunteers dinner where I was able to thank the key volunteers that continue to go the extra mile. Some key names to mention: Shawn Pearce who steps down after over 200 games Norrie Dickson who leaves the exec as Social Chair to persu a role as chair at Thetford Golf Club Without each and everyone playing their part we would just not be the exceptional club that we are. Thanks to each and everyone of you. Members. Thank you for your continued support, my second year as chairman has overall been enjoyable and rewarding as we continue to build on our oneclub ethos Special Thanks and recommendations for Life membership Chris Berry - who stands down as President this year David Reid For services during Covid Mike Hempstead Agreed previously but not recognised Adrian Lewis For recognition of the long-term support of the Club 2023 2023 - - AGM AGM
BURY ST EDMUNDS RUFC BURY ST EDMUNDS RUFC 8. Questions (raised in advance) 8. Questions (raised in advance) 2023 2023 - - AGM AGM
BURY ST EDMUNDS RUFC BURY ST EDMUNDS RUFC Question 1 Question 1 Please can we have Guinness reinstated instead of the ( and I paraphrase), bloody awful stout we now have. Answer 1 Answer 1 Greene King are our single largest sponsor, we have 1 more season to run of the sponsorship agreement for the supply of Saxon stout. We will of course review at this time. 2023 2023 - - AGM AGM
BURY ST EDMUNDS RUFC BURY ST EDMUNDS RUFC Question 2 Question 2 Please can we have at least one session cask ale available at all times (so not Abbot). Answer 2 Answer 2 We are planning on only 2 cask ales this season, IPA and Old speckled hen This will help reduce wastage This will help reduce serving times (4 pumps with 3 ales previously) This will increase capacity No strong Abbot! 2023 2023 - - AGM AGM
BURY ST EDMUNDS RUFC BURY ST EDMUNDS RUFC Question 3 Question 3 Pleasecan we have a breakdown to show what the financial spend is these days to cover what we used to call the Pro Am, so the 1st/2nd team players costs, the coaches and all associated costs, for the last season and the budget for next. ( I presume we still have to submit these to the RFU) Plus how this compares to the latest cost cap for our league. Answer 3 Answer 3 This is and has always been included in the accounts but a summary is provided below SECTION 2021/22 2022/23 2023/24 COACHING 73,383.58 81,435.98 80,000.00 PLAYING 143,408.30 114,108.30 120,100 BUDGET (TOTAL) 312,000 302,000 302,000 ACTUAL (TOTAL) 324,605.17 299,744.50 *302,000 2023 2023 - - AGM AGM
BURY ST EDMUNDS RUFC BURY ST EDMUNDS RUFC Answer 3 Answer 3 cont cont NOTES Player cap reduced for 2021/22 from 157,500 to 125,000 Historic contracts already in place with change of DoR which had to be honoured in 21/22 Resulted in going over cap and Budget for 21/22 Season Delivered on new player cap and agreed budget for 2022/23 season under new DoR 2023/24 player cap remains at 125,000 2023 2023 - - AGM AGM
BURY ST EDMUNDS RUFC BURY ST EDMUNDS RUFC Question 4 Question 4 the fact that we run out of various beers on most busy days . Answer 4 Answer 4 Would disagree with the word fact Wet sales up 17. 37% Food sales up by 23.42% Wastage down (was as much as 1000 per month under previous management) We are busier than we have been and only have the same amount of capacity. On a number of occasions people have said we have run out, but this has not been the case, staff are being trained to communicate better re barrel changes etc. We will be opening the Marquee as a match day bar this season (2 pumps and cans) to increase capacity 2023 2023 - - AGM AGM
