  1. Plus/Delta Spring 2020 Project Management

  2. Definition: Plus/Delta is a method used for facilitating a group discussion focused on reflecting and evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of a group activity or meeting. Positive comments are recorded under the Plus column and suggested improvements or changes are recorded under the Delta column. The delta is frequently represented with a triangle to signify change as in mathematics. Note: You might be familiar with variations of this tool such as Pro/Con or Plus/Minus. Adapt this tool to fit you need.

  3. Purpose: The purpose of the Plus/Delta method is to reflect on and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of a group meeting or activity. The information collected is used to help the group or team understand the group dynamics and make plans to improve or change. This tool can also be used to evaluate ideas, solutions, innovations, options, etc.

  4. When to use: The Plus/ method is frequently used at the end of a project or meeting session to reflect on and evaluate the quality of the event. Ask the team what went well and what changes can be made to improve. This tool helps teams become more self managing and effective as they reflect on their own work and behaviors This method can also be used to reflect on and evaluate decisions made by a group, ideas, solutions, proposed changes, etc. Adapt the tool to fit your need. This tool is used throughout the problem-solving process.

  5. How to use: Use a white board or flip chart paper. Draw a line vertically down the center of the board of paper. Draw a line across the top of the board or paper so that the two line together look like a T . Label the left column Plus . Label the right column . Ask the team to share what is going well Plus . Ask the team to share what they would like to see improved or changed . Take their feedback and work with the team to make a plan for doing more of the good stuff and/or changing the opportunities for improvement. Note: This method is a good to use at the end of a meeting or training. Be sure to leave enough time to reflect, so that you don t have to rush though it.
