Recognizing excellence in safety and security, the Cougar Safety Awards Ceremony on October 16, 2018, honored outstanding individuals and departments for their contributions to maintaining a safe environment. Award recipients included Riley Gale from Facilities Services, Bill Gardner from Public Safety, Larry Grassmick from Custodial Services, Dixie Kearney from CAHNRS Administration, Eric Nilsson from School of Biological Sciences, Officer Mike Petlovany from WSU Police Department, Ryan Savage from University Recreation, and Billy Schmuck from Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture. The event also featured honorable mentions for Emily Brashear from Office of Research, Cliff Knauff from Auxiliary Facilities Services, Sarah Thompson from Information Technology, and the Nuclear Science Center at Washington State University.
