  7. Headlines How well we coped? Before COVID: Carers scored an average of 7/10, when asked how well they were coping in their caring role. During COVID: Carers scored an average of 5/10 when asked how they feel they are coping in their caring role.

  9. 7/10 young adult carers felt that their needs were not recognised during COVID-19 Where as: 5/10 young carers felt that their needs were not recognised during COVID-19

Carers comments My siblings disability isn t visible to people, so they don t recognise my caring role I think that more people need to be aware of Carers who are struggling at home with their education We need more help and support to keep going Need more recognition from the government Many services were reduced due to COVID and I struggled with caring and working More awareness raising of Young and Young Adult Carer

  12. 43% of young carers said that their mental health had been slightly negatively impacted by COVID-19. 50% of young adult carers said that their mental health had been negatively impacted by COVID-19. 53% of young and young adult carers felt they didn t have a break from their caring role throughout the pandemic.

Carers comment on Mental Health Haven't been sleeping well due to feeling scared about COVID I watch my dad struggle more as I am at home, and I am not getting a break by going to school Rather low and lonely No alone time with not being able to go to school Anxious I feel trapped in my house I miss my friends and support group

  17. 36% of young carers and young adult carers felt that their education had been affected negatively 26% of young carers and young adult carers felt that their education had been affected slightly negatively Device and internet issues Can t focus I struggled to understand the online work Missed lessons due to caring

Carers views on their career choices and aspirations I haven t been learning what I need for my choices I don t get a chance to do my exams I m no longer certain on what I career I want to do I wanted to become an English teacher but the pandemic has had a massive impact I feel like my grades wont be as good as if I had been in school full time and this will impact on my future career choices I want to go into medicine but this requires lots of work experience in a care environment, which has not been a possibility

  20. 59% of young adult carers and their families have been financially impacted by the pandemic Lost my job I'm on furlough money Needed to use food bank facilities Electricity and food bills have increased due to being at home more

  21. 50% of young adult carers who responded are working. 66% of young adult carers who were working, were fully or partially furloughed. It made my mental health lower I no longer work There has not been enough support Not enough money to cover all of my bills
