Fostering Potential Project aims to boost educational outcomes for looked after children by empowering foster carers as Education Champions. The program includes training sessions, 1-1 support, peer assistance, and webinars on best practices. Foster carers are equipped to support children in Math, English, and extracurricular activities. The Fostering Potential Project The overall aim of the Fostering Potential programme is to raise the educational outcomes of looked after children Education Champions will work closely with foster carers to increase their skills and confidence in their role as educators Funded by the Sir John Cass Foundation and BFSS 13 training sessions were delivered in the seven project authorities between October and the end of January 2019. 58 foster carers were trained as Education Champions.
Project Activity Education Champions meeting foster carers 1-1 in their homes or at groups Providing peer-support to foster carers around: How to support their fostered child in Maths/English Meeting individual targets (from PEP) Meeting their fostered child s extra-curricular target Preparation for PEP meetings LA can also hold additional events to support, engage and inspire participants Project communication and support provided by an LA coordinator
Webinar programme This aim of this strand is to share research evidence and information about best practice. Beginning late April 2019. Each webinar will be a live event, with an invited speaker Coming events: 2nd May Professor Judy Sebba, REES Centre 9th May Laura Stagg, Achievement for All Other topics will include higher education, aspiring to professional careers, apprenticeships and Mathematics: busting myths and changing mindsets .
