  1. 2022 International Open House Day In Celebration of Founder s Day October 22nd, 2022

  2. Why should lodges and chapters conduct Open Houses?

  3. It allows the public to see what your lodge/chapter and the Moose is all about

  4. It gives you the opportunity to create relationships which may prove beneficial to your fraternal unit

  5. You just might get a few new members as a result!

  6. The MI Compliance office has issued a blanket dispensation allowing all lodge homes to host an Open House on Saturday, October 22nd.

  7. If there is a scheduling conflict on Saturday, October 22, the blanket dispensation allows lodge homes to host the Open House a week earlier - Saturday, October 15.

  8. Important notes: Do not conduct any business on lodge property during the Open House Make no sales to members or non-members during the event Promote the event in advance!!

  9. Once you have agreed to host an Open House Schedule your Open House for a specific time and date. As an example: Saturday, October 22 from 2:00 5:00pm

  10. Prior to the event Promote Promote Promote

  11. Prior to the event Yes, you may advertise your Open House in the local media Newspapers Internet Sites Weekly Flyers

  12. Prior to the event No, you may NOT solicit membership within an ad or any of your promotional materials

  13. Prior to the event Use your signage!

  14. Prior to the event Invite the local dignitaries

  15. Prior to the event It s helpful to have The Mayor Councilpeople Police & Fire Chiefs Other influential people as members of your lodge/chapter

  16. Prior to the event Clean the Lodge! Paint, repair and refresh

  17. Prior to the event Don t forget outside

  18. What you SHOULD do: Organize a presentation that explains what the Moose Fraternity is and how the lodge fits in

  19. What you SHOULD do: Identify the presenter or presenters well in advance and practice Arrange for the presentation to be held several times throughout the Open House

  20. What you SHOULD do: Enlist the help of knowledgeable volunteers who can welcome visitors and provide tours Provide complimentary refreshments

  21. What you SHOULD do: Have information and brochures available to distribute to non- members who attend Collect names and contact information and follow-up with guests

  22. What you SHOULD do: Dress appropriately It s better to be overdressed than underdressed!

  23. What you should NOT do: Open the Social Quarters Sell items to members or non-members during the event Solicit membership from the podium or in a group setting

  24. Can I sign a new member during the Open House? YES On a one-on-one basis during the event, if a non- member expresses an interest in joining you may begin the application process

  25. A final suggestion from the MI Compliance Office There are many events that you can conduct that may be open to the public. Take the opportunity to speak about the Fraternity at any and all of these events as well.
