Understanding SST and MTSS Processes in Education
SST and MTSS are frameworks used in education to address student needs through interventions and data-driven decision-making. The process involves assessing student data, matching interventions, involving parents, and monitoring progress. Classroom structures play a crucial role in implementing these processes, aiming to provide timely and effective support to students. Access, Match/Fit, and Progress Monitoring are key components within the MTSS Tier 2 process, focusing on addressing student needs efficiently.

SST to MTSS Where are We and Where are We Going
How Does SST Processes Fit Within MTSS Meeting with Parents and Intervention Providers to Discuss Higher Level Intervention and Student Needs, Possible Referral to Testing based on Student Data SST Access and Match Fit Process, Progress Monitoring of Interventions Diagnostic Screeners, Teacher Data, Parent Concerns
SST vs MTSS Tier 2 SST Process MTSS Tier 2 Access/Match Fit Meetings Meant to address student needs, process may be lengthy due to need to show response to intervention. Regular, timely meetings to utilizing data to discuss interventions that can begin immediately. Teacher must compile all data to be used, building out their own interventions, and monitoring their own interventions. A team from the school site compiles schoolwide data, intervention data, and teacher data to see what students need and monitor interventions. Teacher initiated Team initiated based on data or teach referral. Used as the process across most sites and districts for at least 25 years with varied fidelity and teacher buy in. MTSS processes have gained traction across sites and districts due to timely and systematic response to student needs. Full implementation of Access/Match Fit/PM in 2023-2024 School Year.
Classroom Structures Have Not Changed Teachers use screener data and classroom data to monitor progress Parents and Teachers communicate if there are concerns about progress Work with parents on goals Classroom interventions provided If there is not any progress then a referral to Tier 2 team Keep doing classroom support consistently

Progress Monitoring and Intervention TrackingEduClimber Monitoring the progress of Interventions Using specific goals from identified skill deficits Using the outcome data to make decisions about continuing, fading, or increasing support or moving to Tier 3/SST Tracking interventions so there is a history of interventions and the result
Educlimber Consolidates All Student Data Viewing Consolidated Data efficiently allows Tier 2 Team to Review Students with Referral for support or find struggling student early. The process is also used to measure progress in an intervention
