  1. Colorado Integration Project: Helping school boards govern in the age of education reform Presented by Ken DeLay and Linda Chapman

  2. Support for effective governance Colorado Legacy Foundation has sub-granted funds to CASB as a part of the Colorado Integration Initiative. The initiative was originally funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. CASB will provide training and tools to help Integration District boards govern the implementation of standards and teacher effectiveness. The grant period ends October 2013. Linda Chapman will serve as the project manager for the grant.

  3. Why CASB? CASB mission: Advancing excellence in public education through effective leadership by locally elected boards of education. Effective leadership by local school boards is critical to the success and sustainability of the Colorado Integration Initiative. CASB is uniquely positioned to directly support the Integration District boards. In addition, CASB will build statewide capacity to augment support to all school boards in the state.

Grant will help CASB Increase the capacity of Integration Districts to lead systemic change Enhance the community engagement and policy making processes used by Integration District boards Expand Integration District boards use of data to monitor implementation progress and outcomes Use tools and resources developed with the Integration District boards to scale support to school boards across the state

  6. Integration District Needs In which of these three areas do you feel you need the most assistance? Systemic Thinking Community Engagement Policy Development

  7. Collaboration Key Partners will help to ensure the integrity of the community engagement process, creating the local buy-in necessary to ensure success and sustainability. Key Partners: Colorado Legacy Foundation, Colorado Department of Education, Colorado Children s Campaign, Colorado Education Association, Colorado Association of School Executives, Rose Community Foundation

  8. First Steps CASB will meet with the Integration District school boards to increase awareness of the following: scope and goals of the grant legal and policy requirements elements of effective board leadership success and sustainability

  9. Next Steps CASB will begin to develop tools and resources for policy making, community engagement and data use. CASB will assist the Integration District boards to inform their communities about the policy and other changes that will occur to ensure success and sustainability.

  11. The Integration Districts Lead the Way As the Integration Districts benefit from the collaboration and facilitation offered by CASB, they also have the opportunity to share and pave the way for the rest of the state

  12. What Now? Adopt a resolution WHEREAS, this Board has made significant progress in implementing education reforms in the District and wishes to continue and expand upon its reform efforts with CASB s assistance; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education wishes to receive CASB s assistance at no cost to the Board to enable the Board to govern the Colorado Integration Initiative more effectively and assist other boards in this work.

  13. Colorado Integration Project CASB IS YOUR PARTNER, working side by side with school boards to ensure high quality, sustainable implementation of educational reforms that ensure every Colorado student graduates with the skills and knowledge necessary to enter college and the workforce.
