Introduction In 2012, DKA Austria Development Cooperation Agency of Katholische Jungschar (Catholic Children s Movement) has redefined its approach to international projects and programmes and introduced the elaboration of country strategies. In 2017, it was decided to categorize Ethiopia as a focus country. This 2ndcountry strategy for Ethiopia was approved in October 2019 for the period of five years (2020 2024). The following priorities will serve as a framework for the cooperation with our partner organisations. To ensure the implementation of this country strategy, DKA Austria will carry out a yearly monitoring and implement adaptions, if necessary. Secured and Sustainable Livelihoods Strategic Goal 2: Improve agricultural production and productivity taking the core principles of agroecology to guarantee food security and resilience Livelihood support to farmers and pastoralists through continuous awareness raising and trainings Strengthening already existing organic farming approaches and conservational based agriculture among the partner organizations Piloting agroecology farming approaches in several villages with experienced partner organizations Enhancing the capacity of rural communities on Natural Resource Management www.sternsingen.at www.dka.at www.dka.at
Secured and Sustainable Livelihoods Strategic Goal 3: Reduce youth unemployment rate through skills development to contribute to economic growth and peace building, thereby reducing migration pressures Development of agrarian and alternative, non-agrarian skills and IGAs with special attention on creating employment opportunities for youth Facilitating the linkage of trainees with labor market Supporting small-scale business development for youth Identifying youth-centered and youth-led activities/ organizations www.sternsingen.at www.dka.at www.dka.at
Human Rights and Civil Society Strategic Goal 4: Address the social and political integration of minority groups and neglected communities through continuous awareness raising, access to education and economic empowerment Supporting awareness raising on social integration among minority and non-minority communities and thereby increasing social inclusion Supporting functional adult literacy Organizing farmers from minority groups and neglected communities (together with farmers from the majority groups), providing skills trainings, support in agricultural development, livestock production, and in development of IGAs Organizing women from minority groups and neglected communities (together with women from the majority groups) into SHGs Supporting the transformation of SHGs into cluster level associations and further to unions/ federations Providing SHGs and SILCs with business skills and allocating start up capital for small-scale IGAs www.sternsingen.at www.dka.at www.dka.at
Human Rights and Civil Society Strategic Goal 5: Enhance social and political participation of women and girls through awareness raising, education, skills development as well as economic empowerment and thereby reducing migration pressures Community awareness raising on the importance of education for girls Support to the improvement of school environments for female students Girls empowerment through education, skills trainings and internship programmes Support the protection of girls from harmful traditional practices such as abduction, female genital mutilation, early marriage or gender based violence Supporting functional adult literacy Organizing women into SHGs Organizing women in saving and credit associations/ cooperatives Supporting the transformation of SHGs into cluster level associations and further to unions/ federations Providing SHGs and SILCs with business skills and allocating start up capital for small-scale IGAs www.sternsingen.at www.dka.at www.dka.at

A Church in Service to the People Strategic Goal 7: Strengthening the pastoral work of the Ethiopian Catholic Church in order to promote integral human development Supporting the pastoral work of the Catholic Church in Ethiopia by focusing on youth pastoral activities, catechists trainings and promotion of interreligious dialogue Supporting peace building initiatives through the Catholic Church in Ethiopia (specifically focusing on the role of the youth) Studying possibilities of future engagement in cross border peace building initiatives in the region Supporting advocacy skills trainings to the leadership of DKA s church-based partners to be a voice and an advocate for environmental protection and climate change www.sternsingen.at www.dka.at
