  2. POST INSTRUCTOR DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE PURPOSE: To provide standardized, multi-level, multi-track programs to develop professionalism in the delivery of law enforcement instruction An OVERVIEW of the PROCESS and the LEVELS

The Process and the Certification Requirements for Each Level POST IDI Level 1 (AICC/Entry Level) POST IDI Level 2 (Intermediate) POST IDI Level 3 (Advanced) Certification at the Basic Level includes: Complete a 40-hour POST Basic Instructor Certification Program Validation of competencies in the classroom Certification at the Intermediate Level includes: Complete the 24-hour Intermediate Instructional Skills Course Complete the 8-hour Presentation Skills and Tools Course Complete the 24-hour Instructional Technology Course Complete an 8-hour Critical Thinking Skills Course Certification at the Advanced Level includes: Complete the 40-hour Advanced Instructor Development Core Course with a 16-hour Teach Back session (56-hrs total) Complete the 24-hour Leadership, Coaching and Mentoring Course Be mentored by an MIDP or MICC graduate Certification at the Master Level 4 includes: Complete the Master Instructor Development Program (MIDP); designing, developing and delivering a minimum of a 24- hour course that meets a demonstrated and POST approved training need The course the MICC student will develop will follow the proven ISD model of the present Master Instructor Course The candidate s ISD and TTP will be evaluated by a panel of qualified trainers prior to course delivery Master Instructor s provide the cadre to deliver all POST IDI training Equivalencies may be granted only for AICC/Entry Level Instructor Development. Details on this process are available from the appropriate course presenters

  4. Master Instructor Certification Course (MICC) Prerequisites The MICC Level 4 prerequisites for attendance include the completion of the following: All Level 1 and 2 coursework including the 40-hour AICC (Level 1 Tab on the POST IDI Website); the 24-hour Level 2 Core Course; the 8-hour Critical Thinking Course, the 8-hour Presentation Skills Course and the 16-hour Instructional Technology Course (all listed under the Level 2 Tab above). All Level 3 coursework including completion of the IDI Advanced Instructor Development Course (Level 3); completion of the 24-hr IDI Leadership, Mentoring and Coaching Course. The "Student Learning Outcomes" training course on the POST Learning Portal. (Currently unavailable-LP unable to support FLASH) The 16-hour Instructional Technology "UPDATE" Course (this is a new course designed specifically for those attending MICC- it is not the same as the Level 2 "Instructional Technology Course"). The 24-hour Critical Thinking/Writing class. Completion and submission of the MICC application and request to enter the Level 4 MICC.

  5. GOAL: DEVELOP THE BASIC REQUISITE SKILLS REQUIRED TO BE A SUCCESSFUL ENTRY-LEVEL INSTRUCTOR. IDI LEVEL 1: AICC/ ENTRY LEVEL BASIC COURSE INSTRUCTIONAL SYSTEM CERTIFIED and BEING PRESENTED ROLES AND SAFETY ISSUES RESPONSIBILITIES OBSERVED/EVALUATED APPLICATION OF THE LEARNED SKILLS TO VALIDATE COMPETENCY ARE ALSO REQUIRED ADULT LEARNING CONCEPTS LEGAL ISSUES BASIC INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION PROGRAM 40 HRS LESSON PLANNING EVALUATION TECHNIQUES USING LEARNING RESOURCES and TRAINING AIDS PRESENTATION SKILLS FACILITATION SKILLS

  6. GOAL: PROVIDE ADDITIONAL TOOLS AND SKILLS TO INSTRUCTORS WHO HAVE COMPLETED IDI LEVEL ONE TO ENHANCE THEIR ABILITY TO TRAIN IN INCREASINGLY ACTIVE WAYS THAT CHALLENGE THEIR LEARNERS. IDI LEVEL 2: INTERMEDIATE OUTCOME BASED LEARNING (LO) PROBLEM BASED LEARNING PRESENTATION SKILLS and TOOLS 8 hour stand alone FACILITATION SKILLS SUCCESFULLY COMPLETE ALL LEVEL 2 TRAINING INTERMEDIATE INSTRUCTIONAL SKILLS 24 HRS INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY 24 HRS CERTIFIED IDI LEVEL 2 ACTIVE LEARNING CRITICAL THINKING 8 hour stand alone HANDOUTS JOB AIDS ASSESSMENT

IDI Level3: ADVANCED GOAL: DEVELOP AND HONE SKILLS FOCUSING ON THE DESIGN, DEVELOPMENT AND DELIVERY OF A MODULE OF INSTRUCTION ALC- RIDEM APPLICATION TO A MODULE BUILD ON, REINFORCE and APPLY LEVEL 1 and 2 SUBJECT MATTER NETWORKING ADVANCED MODULE DEVELOPMENT CORE COURSE 40 HRS LEADERSHIP MENTORING COACHING 24 HRS (Standalone Course) DEVELOP LESSON PLANS- LEARNING ACTIVITIES EVALUATION TOOLS BASIC ISD APPLICATION TO A MODULE MODULE TEACHBACK EVALUATION 16 HRS RESEARCH EXPAND RESOURCE BASE

  8. IDI LEVEL 4: MASTER GOAL: DEVELOP SKILLS FOCUSING ON THE DESIGN, DEVELOPMENT AND DELIVERY OF A COURSE OF INSTRUCTION. DESIGN, DEVELOP and DELIVER A COURSE REINFORCE and VALIDATE PREVIOUS LEVELS TOTAL TRAINING PACKAGE MASTER LEVEL COURSE TTP DEVELOPMENT TTP VALIDATED BY A PANEL OF QUALIFIED TRAINERS COURSE WITHIN SME SKILLSET ADVANCED RESEARCH; COURSE FOCUSED THE CREATE LEVEL OF BLOOM S TAXONOMY ADVANCED INSTRUCTIONAL SYSTEMS DESIGN

  9. Completion of Instructor Development Program ROLES FOR MASTER INSTRUCTORS FOCUS GROUPS INSTRUCTOR DEVELOPMENT COURSE COORDINATORS COURSE DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY DIRECTOR RESOURCE POST RESOURCE COACH LEADERSHIP ROLE IN TRAINING SYMPOSIUM PRESENTERS MENTOR ROLE MODELS

POST INSTRUCTOR DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE In Summary POST has made a commitment to provide the instructional cadre with the training required to more effectively meet the training needs of the future Training is an important and expensive endeavor- enhancing the skills of the cadre will ensure the student is receiving the best training possible Too often training has been about efficiency over effectiveness . . . the training models being employed in IDI are about learning rather than merely presenting material The proper application of adult, experience-based learning techniques cannot be successfully accomplished without first having a competently trained cadre The ultimate goal of this program is to ensure every instructor has the tools and skills required to professionally deliver effective training . . . nothing else is acceptable
