WI Public Library Annual Report WI Public Library Annual Report Provides a general description of public libraries and the services provided to library users Required annually as a report from Library Board under Wis. Stat. 43.58 (6) (a) to the Division for Libraries and Technology (DLT) Shared cooperatively with the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Used in library population and other calculations

  4. IMLS Public Library Survey IMLS Public Library Survey Public Libraries Survey (PLS) Annual survey submitted by States and US Territories Administered by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Certified by IMLS and released in the Library Search and Compare Tool

Statistics in the Annual Report Statistics in the Annual Report Facility characteristics collections, location, square footage, library type, system membership Services circulation, reference, programs and activities, internet access, computer access Income and Expenditures - operating and capital Staff Librarians, other staff, salary Governance Library Board Assurances and Local Certification

Timeline Timeline Libraries gather statistics throughout the calendar year and end of year statistics Library Systems prepopulate a limited set of statistics for member libraries in January DLT opens the collection window in late January Library reports are due to DLT by March 1 (February 29 in a leap-year) WI submits to IMLS in June IMLS certifies and publicly releases nationwide statistics in the summer of the next year

Finding the data Finding the data Wisconsin Public Library Service Data Preliminary Data - Not certified by the Division for Libraries and Technology or the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Final Data Public Library data following IMLS certification with county, system, and statewide summaries since 1996 Population Data - Includes the Demographic Services Center's annual population estimates, the library's "add-on" service population

Common uses of library data Common uses of library data Local planning, identification of trends, and review Consolidating stories and statistics about our libraries Documenting monetary support of public libraries Assuring compliance with WI State Statutes under Chapter 43 and determining Library System Effectiveness Research and comparison with similar libraries More detail is available in the notes section of this slide
