  1. Taking notice of others and giving back to the community

  2. Why does giving improve wellbeing? Helping and supporting other people, and working with others towards a shared goal, has been shown to be good for our mental health and wellbeing. Small acts of kindness towards other people, or larger acts such as volunteering in your local community can give you a sense of purpose and make you feel happier and more satisfied about life. Giving, in all its forms, not only benefits those you help, but also instils feelings of improved well-being.

  3. Can you help and give back to the community by making a dignity bib for local care home residents? How can you take notice and help others? What do we mean when we say dignity? Dignity is the right of a person to be valued and respected for their own sake, and to be treated ethically. Now let s revisit the word bib . We all know what a bib is, and we all know that it might be embarrassing to be told that you had to wear one during dinner because you couldn t control your shaking hands, or feed yourself. What adult person would feel dignified or respected if they had to wear a bib while eating their dinner?

  4. The dignity bibs are bibs that look more like clothing, so that elderly people and differently abled individuals, can continue to eat their meals in a dignified and respected manner. You don t even have to call it a bib, more like an extra layer of protective clothing for dinner. They are super easy to create from scratch, or from repurposed clothing like shirts and shawls- so its also helping the environment!

  5. If you are interested you can make the bib at home. We will be collecting the bibs to distribute to local care homes: Please bring the bib you have made to the HUMANITIES office C1.12 from 7th June (week after half term) Praise points will be awarded for your participation and kindness A step by step guide to making the bib can be found at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&fbclid=IwAR2 0LJiHEtu25pxQrhdB3Awurjz0COt26CVnYC0w3Xd5ttWcsQGDwY rRJbg&v=FgvLlVKzjpQ&feature=youtu.be
