a) The first x-ray, taken soon after the onset of symptoms, shows narrowing of the C5/6 disc space but no other abnormality. (b) Three weeks later there is dramatic destruction and collapse; the speed at which these have occurred distinguishes pyogenic from tuberculous infection.
