Routines Routines Please make sure children arrive at school between 8.40 and 9.00 children will go straight into class, as they did last year Children need to be collected at 3.15pm unless they go to Rainbow Club or are independent travellers Mobile phones may be brought by independent travellers but MUST be handed in to the teacher on arrival and NOT used on the school premises at home time. Lunch time: 12.30 1.30 Long morning - encourage children to bring a healthy snack for break time If you wish to speak to your child s teacher, please make an appointment by contacting the office, or via the year group email: Year6@colindale.barnetmail.net

Punctuality & Attendance Good attendance to school is vital for your child s progress. Punctuality the first lesson will start promptly at 9.00. Should your child be unwell, please let the office know in the morning. If your child has any symptoms of COVID 19 persistent cough, temperature, loss of taste or smell you need to book a test and self-isolate until the results come back. Please let the school office know. Remember - holidays should be taken in holiday time and if they are not, parents will be fined.

Bringing Equipment to School Every child needs a school book bag for their library books and letters NO back packs as we do not have room to store them PE kits should be brought on Monday and taken home on Friday Swimming kits must be taken home after swimming Packed lunches to be brought in a packed lunch box or bag

PE Kit Uniform Children should look neat and tidy White buttoned shirts or polo shirts Ties, if worn, covering top button Ties should not be worn with polo shirts School sweatshirt Plain black shoes Purple or black headscarves only

School Website Eco school avoiding unnecessary use of paper and printing ink All letters are on the website you will be informed of new letters by Weduc message. Paper copies still send via the children for trips and letters requiring a return slip Visit the Learning page to find: Curriculum overviews for each term all subjects Subject overviews available for each subject covering all years

Home Learning In year 6 the children are given 6 homework books focus on skills required for SATs: o English Grammar; Spelling; Punctuation o Maths Arithmetic; Number, Ratio & Algebra; Geometry, Measures & Statistics Each week on Thursdays they will be given one of these English and one of these Maths books to take home they should only work on the pages indicated by the teacher. It is vital the children complete the set pages and bring the books back to school on Mondays when the work is assessed and marked in class by the children. We will also send home library books and spelling lists children need to learn all Year 3,4,5 & 6 words. Pastoral Care Focus in school on mental health and emotional well-being Daily emotions check-in in class Encourage children to share problems they might have worry box for privacy Children are encouraged to speak to teachers, support staff or phase leader Parent concerns - contact class teacher directly or via school office If the issue is not resolved, or is beyond the scope of the class teacher, please contact me Year 6 is a time of change for children: 1. Transition to secondary school 2. Puberty 3. Anxiety over assessments and tests, including SATs results 4. Changing peer relationships as children mature 5. Increased access to social media can cause issues, such as bullying and feeling isolated, as well as the chance to access inappropriate materials

Behaviour Revised behaviour policy high expectations Key underlying rules: 1. Keep yourself and others safe 2. Respect everyone in the school 3. Listen to adults and follow their instructions Class rules drawn up by children Staff follow Behaviour jumps if child exhibits poor behaviour Sanctions could be: moving seat, missing break and/or lunch, working in another class or office of senior staff, internal or external exclusion Parents always informed of serious incidents and ongoing patterns of poor behaviour

Assemblies No assemblies last year due to covid, except in class or via Teams Year 6 will have a weekly year group assembly with Mrs Robertson with a focus on the school s values, religious celebrations and events of significance to year 6 Singing assemblies Class assemblies dates to be decided Children have assemblies in class with their teacher s on days when there is no other assembly End of year performances & graduation ceremony last week of Summer Term
