  4. Role of Parents Council The Parent Council is the structure through which parents/guardians in a school can work together for the best possible education for their children. The Parent Council works with the principal, staff and the board of management. Parent Council can suggest and/or organise extra- curricular activities. The Parent Council is a support for parents in the school however The Parent Council is not a forum for complaints

  6. Parents councils contribution to date? Set up and managed the Book leading scheme for Killeen N.S The total cost of this project to date is 4,500. We are currently working with the Mrs. Connolly to arrange funds to change the Maths curriculum for 5th & 6th Class. Supplement the Gymnastics for all children total cost of this is 250 Total Cost if not supplement by Parents Council would be 720 Gymnastics take place every Friday -1st term only Supplement swimming from 1st Class 6th Class Total contribution from Parents Council is 250 - Total Cost if not supplement by Parents Council is 530.

  10. Board of Management Function Under the Education Act 1998, the patron is obliged 'for the purposes of ensuring that a recognised school is managed in a spirit of partnership' to appoint, where practicable, a board of management The board's main function is to manage the school on behalf of the patron and for the benefit of the students and to provide an appropriate education for each student at the school Boards of Management of primary schools are appointed for a four year term.

  11. Board of Management Function It has responsibility for drawing up the school plan and for ensuring that it is implemented. It appoints the principal, the teachers and other staff. It has overall responsibility for the school's finances. It is obliged to have comprehensive insurance cover for the school. It must keep proper accounts, which may be audited by the Department of Education and Skills and/or the Comptroller and Auditor General. Its annual accounts must be available to the patron and the school community It must promote contact between the school, the parents and the community and must facilitate and give all reasonable help to a parents' association in its formation and its activities.

  12. 8 Constitution of Boards of Management The Principal Teacher (or Acting Principal Teacher) of the school Two parents of children enrolled in the school (one being a mother, the other a father, elected by the general body of parents of children enrolled in the school). One other serving teacher on the staff of the school, elected by vote of the teaching staff which includes the Principal Teacher Two direct nominees of the Patron. Two extra members proposed by those nominees
