Why do PUSH and PULL factors matter to me?
Now, lets focus on factors!
Social PUSHing - oppressive culture forces you to leave RELIGIOUS OPPRESSION SEXISM RACISM
Political PUSHing - government s actions forcing you out - POLITICAL OPPRESSION WAR INSTABILITY government cannot maintain control over the country (perhaps it has been changing every few years, resulting in a lack of stability) Afghanistan Citizens have little to no freedoms OR
Economic PUSHing UNEMPLOYMENT (lack of jobs) HIGH COST OF LIVING POVERTY
Environmental PUSHing NATURAL DISASTERS POLLUTION DROUGHT
Now, lets focus on factors!
Political PULLing The court system will work in your favor. PEACEFUL PLACE TO LIVE FEELING OF JUSTICE Stable government! Citizens feel safe! Warfare is rare! INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS Our Constitution protects us.
Economic PULLing having those things you WANT and NEED to maintain your status and circumstances
Environmental PULLing better quality of life less pollution/less health problems AND longer life expectancy stable climate

Lesson Essential Questions What are the effects of immigration on the countries involved? 7.3.9.A. 7.3.9.C How do extreme physical events impact immigration? 7.3.9.A, 7.3.9.C How do political, social and economic events impact immigration? 7.3.9.A, 7.3.9.C Classroom Use factors. As I show it, students will complete the accompanying PUSH and PULL Factors Notes sheet. This will hold students accountable for paying attention to the PP, and it will provide students with concrete notes to refer to later. After the PP, students will turn in their Notes sheet for a completion grade. To conclude the lesson, students will work in groups of three on the PUSH or PULL? activity. I will use this PP as an introduction to PUSH and PULL
