Origins Belize, January 2016: first meeting with eight participating countries Trinidad and Tobago, December 2016: second meeting with 22 countries (First Meeting of the CMC) Jamaica, December 2019: Preparatory Meeting for a Regional Approach to Migration and International Protection with over 70 participants from 21 countries
Purpose Forum that allows members to discuss migration and international protection topics in order to develop coordinated approaches and strategies. Regional Dialogue Hub of information exchange among members, such as good practices related to the management of mixed movements. Knowledge Exchange Develop and implement policies to achieve coordinated, rights-based and effective management of issues related to migration/mixed movements and forced displacement/international protection. Policy & Action
Achievements Created networks among actors on themes related to migration and refugee protection Addressed a wide range of topics, including counter-human trafficking, emergency response, diaspora, refugee protection, statelessness, data collection and management, human mobility in the contexts of disasters and climate change, and labour migration
Follow-up Creation of the Technical Secretariat of the CMC within the framework of CARICOM IMPACS, and approve a Regional Action Plan Strengthen cooperation in the management of mixed movements through rights-based approaches Consolidate the CMCs as a regional consultative and coordination mechanism for the Caribbean
