  1. BSN New Student Immunization Requirements George Barajaz, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC

Required immunization documentation must be entered in Castlebranch prior to enrolling for Nursing classes Hepatitis B Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Tdap) Varicella (Chicken Pox) Influenza (Flu) Required Immunizations Required documentation includes proof of immunization and/or titers

  3. What is a Titer? A titer is a blood test that measures your immunity to a disease. Get quantitative, IgG (NOT IgM) titers. Upload lab report.

  4. Hepatitis B Do you have proof of prior completion of entire Hep B vaccination series? If Yes Get a titer drawn at least 1 month after the last dose in the vaccine series If titer is positive - Submit lab report & proof of vaccine completion If titer is negative Repeat vaccine series (2 options available) 2-dose series of Heplisav-B (doses one month apart) OR 3-dose series of Energix-B (doses at 0, 1 & 6 months) Heplisav-B option has limited availability stocked at University Health Clinic Repeat titer one month after final dose *Your provider must order a Hep B titer as Hepatitis B Surface Antibody, Quantitative (Anti-HBs)

  6. Hepatitis B (Non-Responder) If you have received 2 complete sets of Hep B series vaccines and titers remain negative, you are considered a non-responder No need to receive further Hep B vaccination Obtain letter from medical provider of non-responder status

  7. Measles, Mumps, & Rubella (MMR) Submit proof of prior completion of vaccine series (2 doses) OR positive titer for all three diseases (MMR). IF no proof of prior vaccination, get a titer drawn and if all 3 (MMR) are positive, submit titer report. IF titer results for any of the 3 diseases (MMR) are negative, completion of vaccine series (2 doses), one month apart is required. Submit proof of vaccine series completion. *Your provider must order an MMR titer as MMR Immunity IgG profile

  8. Tetanus, Diphtheria, & Pertussis (Tdap) Submit proof of initial Tdap vaccination if within last 10 years OR Proof of Td or Tdap booster vaccination within the past 10 years

  9. Varicella (Chicken Pox) Submit proof of prior vaccine series completion (2 doses, 28 days apart) OR Diagnosis/verification of history of varicella or herpes zoster (shingles) by a healthcare provider OR Positive titer result. Titer is recommended only if no proof of vaccine completion or verification of disease in the past (If titer result is negative, must complete vaccine series and submit proof of vaccination and no subsequent titer needed) *Your provider must order Varicella Titer as VZV IgG Antibody

  10. Submit documentation of Flu vaccine every year by November 1st Vaccine is usually available at the beginning of October every year If you start nursing school in a Spring semester (January) submit documentation of flu vaccine during current flu season (October March) Influenza (Flu) If you start nursing school in Summer or Fall semesters you will not need to submit proof of flu vaccination to enroll in courses for Summer or Fall semesters BUT once vaccine becomes available in October, you are required to get it and submit proof by Nov. 1st

  11. Other Requirements Tuberculosis Screening (see next slide) CPR Submit your current CPR certification. Must be the American Heart Association Healthcare Provider course Board of Nursing (BON) background check Must submit BON Blue card or declaratory letter which confirms criminal background completed. Normally, students receive their blue card 4-6 weeks after completing their fingerprint requirement Health Insurance - Submit a copy of your current insurance card or proof of coverage

  12. Tuberculosis (TB) Screening (Annual Requirement) Must provide proof of negative PPD Mantoux tuberculin skin test (TST) OR negative blood assay done within the last year 2 available blood assays (QuantiFERON Gold or T-Spot) IF you are getting screened for first time or last TST was done over a year ago - then must provide EITHER of the following: Proof of a 2-step TST (2 TST tests completed at least 1 week apart but no more than 12 months apart) OR a single blood assay test TST current within the last year: only a single TST is required History of BCG vaccination: must get a single blood assay not a TST History of positive TST, blood assay or prior TB treatment Must follow-up with a healthcare provider for further requirements
