  2. Introduction I was born in Kansas City, Missouri and grew up in Liberty, Missouri. When I was in High School, I was apart of a Northland CAPS program that allowed me to have an internship in the CVICU and knew I wanted to choose Nursing as a career path. I am currently in the Navy Reserves and have a flat-coated retriever named Bear.

  3. The BSN Essentials Domain I: Knowledge for Nursing Practice Domain II: Person-Centered Care Domain III: Population Health Domain IV: Scholarship for the Nursing Discipline Domain V: Quality and Safety Domain VI: Interprofessional Partnerships Domain VII: Systems-based Practice Domain VIII: Informatics and Healthcare Technologies Domain IX: Professionalism Domain X: Personal, Professional, and Leadership Development

  4. Domain I: Knowledge for Nursing Practice This distinguishes the practice of professional nursing and forms the basis for clinical judgment and innovation in nursing practice (AACN, 2021, p. 32). The background of Nursing has shaped Nursing to the uniqueness today Foundation in liberal arts Apply knowledge from nursing science along with physical, social, and natural sciences to understand the concept of the practice. Clinical reasoning

  5. Domain I: Knowledge for Nursing Practice Past: Taking the anatomy and physiology, along with pathology created the foundation of understanding the science behind Nursing. Taking the prerequisite courses that are the foundation to a degree is the building block used for Nursing. Future As a new grad nurse, I would like to continue my education further in understanding the human body and obtaining more certifications.

  6. Domain II: Person-Centered Care Person-centered care is the core purpose of nursing as a discipline (AACN, 2021, p.34). Prioritizing health concerns Creating therapeutic relationships Incorporate clinical skills

  7. Domain II: Person-Centered Care Past o During clinical this domain was implemented. We had learned to effectively communicate with the patient and include the skills that we have learned in fundamentals and health assessment. While doing clinicals we also implemented this from the care plans that we had to complete to further understand the process of nursing. Future o In the future this will be carried over, because creating a care plan and evaluating outcomes will continue to the bases of giving patient-centered care along with developing a therapeutic relationship.

  8. Domain III: Population Health "Population health spans the healthcare delivery continuum, including public health, acute care, ambulatory care, and long-term care" (AACN, 2021, p. 38). Including socioeconomic factors into healthcare Advocating for the patient Public health emergencies Public health population

  9. Domain III: Population Health Past o In community health class and clinical is where the education on population health really took place. While in this class and clinical we learned the preventions to health and how to properly categorizes them, along with understanding the healthy goals of the population. Future o In the future this will implemented while doing the background assessment for a patient. It is important to know their socioeconomic factors that may be influencing their health.

  10. Domain IV: Scholarship for the Nursing Discipline "Ethical comportment in the conduct and dissemination of research and advocacy for human subjects are essential components of nursing's role in the process of improving health and health care" (AACN, 2021, p.42). Evidence based practice Ethical conduct Apply theoretical frameworks in practice

  11. Domain IV: Scholarship for the Nursing Discipline Past o In the past implementation of evidence-based practice was used during research methods. This class has taught the proper way to navigate through clinical research, along with the proper way to dissect clinical research. While taking the leadership course QI problems were discussed and education on researching a problem to improve the outcome was implemented. Future o While continuing my nursing journey I will continue to use evidence-based practice in my skills and during my career, because clinical research is constantly evolving, and it is important to keep updated to provide the most accurate quality care.

  12. Domain V: Quality and Safety "Quality and safety, as core values of nursing practice, enhance quality and minimize risk of harm to patients and providers through both system effectiveness and individual performance" (AACN, 2021, p.44). Culture awareness Promote policies Comparing quality improvement methods

  13. Domain V: Quality and Safety Past o Learning about culture awareness has been key to giving quality care to patients. It is important to understand their own practices at home and is a safety factor due to possibility of mixing noncompatible methods of relief. Becoming aware of policies within the hospitals during clinical has also been a key to keep the patient safe. Future o In the future I plan to stay updated on all policies and procedures within the healthcare setting I will be practicing in, along with having culture competence. Keep the patient safe is a top priority in providing quality care.

  14. Domain VI: Interprofessional Partnerships "Interprofessional partnerships require a coordinated, integrated, and collaborative implementation of the unique knowledge, beliefs, and skills of the full team for the end purpose of optimized care deliver" (AACN, 2021, p.47). \ Includes families, care team members, communities, and patients Incorporating team dynamics Using roles and responsibilities Maintain respect

  15. Domain VI: Interprofessional Partnerships Past o Interprofessional partnership has been used through nursing school both in the clinical and class rooming setting. This integration of working as a team on projects with peers to working with nurses complete their work task. In nursing we have learned that it is a team job and cannot be accomplished alone. Future o In the future as a new graduate nurse, I will be implementing the domain by being the one to help the aid on the floor and communicate with patients, their families, and their providers along with any other healthcare professional that may be included in the patient plan of care.

  16. Domain VII: Systems-based Practice "Responding to and leading within complex systems of healthcare" (AACN, 2021, p.49). Appling critical skills Considering the cost-effectiveness of care Advocating for diverse population Implement improvement strategies

  17. Domain VII: Systems-based Practice Past o Learning systems-based practice has been included throughout nursing school but was implemented the most during pathophysiology and critical care. While in nursing school we have learned to critical think and to look at the whole clinical picture and implement interventions. The importance of advocacy was discussed during legal and ethical and touched on during community health and mental health. Future o As a new graduate nurse, I plan to continue to gain more knowledge in addressing complex health problems along with implementing quality care. As well as continue to advocate for patients.

  18. Domain VIII: Informatics and Healthcare Technologies "Informatics processes and technologies are used to manage and improve the delivery of safe, high-quality, and efficient healthcare services in accordance with best practice and professional and regulatory services" (AACN, 2021, p.51). Technology tools Use data to generate knowledge Communication technology to support safe patient care Policy standards

  19. Domain VIII: Informatics and Healthcare Technologies Past o While using technology to communicate with other healthcare professionals in the clinical setting it has been a useful tool to rely messages quickly and efficiently. Future o The use of technology will be used throughout my nursing career, because it has been used to effectively provide patient care. For example, paging a doctor regarding a critical change in care.

Domain IX: Professionalism "Professionalism encompasses the development of a nursing identity embracing the values of integrity, altruism, inclusivity, compassion, courage, humility, advocacy, caring, autonomy, humanity, and social justice" (AACN, 2021, p.54). Values and characteristics Professional identity Diversity and equity

  21. Domain IX: Professionalism Past o Professionalism has been discussed from the beginning of starting clinicals. During nursing school before we start clinicals there is a syllabus and guidelines we must follow while in the hospitals. This is be sure that we are following their guidelines and representing UMKC in a professional manner. Future o In the future I plan to carry my professionalism along with me into my new job and throughout my career to gain the respect of my peers, healthcare team, and patients.
