  3. Why Should We Forgive? Jesus said it is essential to our entering Heaven Matthew 614,15 if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Score keeping requires too much of our time, and Jesus taught against it Matthew 18:21,22 Because Holding a grudge only prolongs your own suffering Leviticus 19:18 nor bear any grudge against the children of your people An unforgiving attitude makes you less attractive to others - People tend to shy away from those who bear grudges. An unforgiving attitude gives other people control over you - They are deciding how you will feel.

  4. Can You Forgive And Forget? Tend to forget our own faults Proverbs 21:2 God says we can forgive and forget- Ephesians 4:32 Need A Little Help Forgiving? God commands it Matthew 6:14,15 Romans 12:17-21 Repay no one evil for evil do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay Trust God 1 John 5:3 His aim is our ultimate good Forgiving others shows strength of Character

  5. Need A Little Help Forgiving? By forgiving others you avoid the appearance of using a double standard; one for self and another for others Remember that your own faults are basically no different Romans 3:23 all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God Forgiving is consistent with the Practice of love John 14:15 If you love Me, keep My commandments. John 14:21 he who loves Me will be loved by My Father John 14:23,24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words 1 John 2:4; 4:7-11; 5:2,3 this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments.

  6. Do You Forgive? Do you rejoice at the forgiven s misfortunes? Do you avoid the forgiven? Are you friendly and kind toward the forgiven? 1 Peter 3:8,9 Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; 9 not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.

  7. CRITERIA FOR FORGIVING Ephesians 4:32 forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you. Colossians 3:12,13 even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. How Has Christ Forgiven Us? Has He held a grudge? What condition would we be in if Christ brought up everything we have done? Divine forgiveness does NOT do this! Hebrews 8:8- 12

  8. CRITERIA FOR FORGIVING Jeremiah 31:31-34 Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more! IF we would be forgiven (i.e. sins remembered against us no more), we must FORGIVE (i.e. sins remembered against them no more!) May our God help us to be LIKE HIM in every way!
